I went to Rairdon’s Volkswagen of Everett for a used 2014 Jetta. I wanted to get it checked out by a mechanic, but the sales person talked me out of doing this. She brought another person to talk to me who said that the mechanic would be "looking for problems" and that they would lie to me. Upon reflection I found this to be preposterous. It is the mechanic's job to "look for problems". They told me that the dealership had their own mechanics to inspect the cars. Am I to assume that these mechanics do not "look for problems"? And if not, then what do they look for? Once I took the car home to my wife, we found that it had a cigarette smell inside and several burn marks. Since we have a one-year-old we are concerned about third-hand smoke. We went back to the dealership to trade it in according to our 7-day exchange policy. We were allowed to take a car overnight and have it checked by a mechanic. It was a struggle to get the sales person to say that we could take another car if there was an issue with the second car. She ended up saying something like "let's see when we get there." The second car, a 2017 VW Tiguan ended up needing $2,500 of work. It was leaking oil in a couple places and had electrical issues. By this point we were very stressed. The folks at the dealership told us it was possible to bring cars from other Rairdon lots but it could only be 1 car per day, and we only had 6 days left to find a good car. The next day we went to another Rairdon lot and test drove several cars. More than one of them had a cigarette smell. One of them had a recall, so we ruled it out. We came back to the dealership on the fourth day certain that it would be extremely difficult to find a good used car during this 7-day exchange period. The dealership did not let us out of the contract even though they admitted that they made no money when they sold us the original car. (Of course, this is probably a lie.) Another lie, is that the original sales person did not notice the cigarette smell. Another lie is that the GM would be in on Monday (the fourth day) and we would be able to speak with her. Instead, she was in but we were not allowed to speak to her. We spoke to another person who made it clear that we could not exit the contract. I made it very clear to him that no matter what happened, the dealership would be getting a very negative review from me. We ended up leasing a new car because there was no way that we could find a suitable used car in the time crunch. There is no issue with the new car, but several people lied to me and misled me. They used every trick in the book. I fell for those tricks, but it does not excuse them. I have not been able to document all of the lies and deception that the team at Rairdon's VW of Everett used. The process was extremely stressful and it ruined something that was supposed to be a surprise gift for my wife. Instead of a wonderful surprise, we got the...
Read moreI came in for an oil change and recall service related to airbags. I also wanted to have a few other things troubleshot such as a popping noise from the roof which is a well documented issue that has its own vw tech tip and proximity sensors that seem to have a mind of its own. My vehicle ended up being at the dealership for a week Friday thru Thursday and I was told the issues could not be duplicated. The sensor issue is so annoying we have thought of getting rid of the car and I turned off all active assist features to stop it. This is something I mentioned being disabled when I dropped the car off. The roof popping issue was able to be duplicated 1 time even though I mentioned specific conditions it happens in. Eventually I asked if they had reviewed the tech tip and looked at the roof rails as noted in it. I received a response the next day saying we determined it is caused by your roof rails being loose… this is very disappointing. I paid almost $700 for diagnostic fees and was without my vehicle for a week. After picking up the vehicle I was thinking sweet the sensor issue is gone but found that the active assist features were disabled still. In order to test, they would have needed to be turned on so now I wonder if they were tested. I turned the features back on and the next day get the same ghost beeping… I still have the roof popping because that wasn’t a covered part of my warranty and would have cost $1000 to drop the headliner and reforge the bolts but why did it take so long to look at the information that I provided. I even linked the tech tip in the notes when I scheduled online. And the airbag work has now resulted in an error that pops up on the dash randomly while driving, goes away and then comes back. ~$700 and all I got out of this was an oil change, a week without a car in a loaner that we had to pay for and has made us realize that we probably would not buy a Tiguan in the future.
Attached photos show error that pops up and kind of startling when it happens while driving. Other photo shows the airbag warning light on.
You can also see the infotainment indicating something along the driver side of the vehicle. Supplementary photo shows a view out of the drivers side window. You can see nothing along the side of the car in the mirror...

Service department - 1 star
My car sat there for a week before anyone looked at it even though I had an appointnent. Meanwhile I was charged $80 for a rental, and then they didn't fix the car when they gave it back! Charged me $2k to fix something they "thought" was the problem, and then asked for another $4k after I returned the car within 2 hours of picking it back up and seeing that the reason that I brought the car in for service in the first place was not actually addressed or fixed. Keep in mind I brought the same car into them last year for the same code that popped up on the diagnostic tool, and they charged me over $1000 back then. So, total of $3k in repairs that, sure, would have been helpful, but didn't actually fix the problem that I was having. Eventually settled on just trading in the car for a new one when they were only going to give me 15% off on the remaining $4k in "repairs that were needed" (which, in my opinion were the actual repairs that needed to get done in the first place). The car could no longer start due to an adblue error, so I was left with no choice but to trade it in because the cost of repairs was higher than the car was worth to me.
Sales - 3 stars, saved by Jonah and Miguel
Jonah and Miguel by themselves - 5 stars. Those two are so helpful and think about what YOU want as the customer, even if they go home with a smaller commission or no commission at all. The other sales managers and sales people are so hungry for sales that they will literally call and email you 10 times in a week and try to convince you to buy a car on the spot. So incredibly annoying. If it weren't for Jonah and Miguel coming in to save the day, I would have towed my old car right next door to Honda and struck a trade-in deal with them. I won't purchase from Rairdon again unless Jonah and Miguel are there. Oh - can't remember the finance guy's name, but he was incredible as well. Didn't try to hard-sell all of the addons to me and made the process short, easy, and transparent. I just didn't...
