I donāt usually like to leave negative reviews but after two horrible experiences at Protech I feel obliged to warn others away from this business.
My most recent experience, dropped an amp in for a replacement input jack. Am told 3/4 weeks max. 6 weeks later I telephone the business and am told āits on the bench, the tech will call you todayā. I call back a week later (cos they havenāt called) and am told that they have reached out to the manufacturer for schematics but received no response⦠I mention that they are actually very responsive on the phone - and the staff member suggested I call them myself!!! WHAT!!!!
Realizing this is the only way things can get done I call the manufacturer and have schematics in my email in minutes. Call Protech to get an email to forward them to and the staff member spelled out an incorrect email address.
Call back a week later, get the correct email (nobody has followed up from the store at any point so far). The amp is ready the next day however it makes a noise when changing channels and the power light no longer works. How it passed testing on the way out I have no idea.
They charged me about 50% more than the job was and took almost twice as long as expected. Plus the amp came back not fully repaired and with a new problem.
My other experience was with a very expensive and rare instrument. I should never have gone back after this. After collecting my instrument after a simple repair I notice that the setup of the instrument has drastically changed. The action and truss rod had been altered, there was no precedent of need to do so for the repair in question. If I had to guess, the bass was left somewhere hot or humid and somebody tried to mitigate the problems caused.
So I call the shop, speak to the owner and am told āthere is no way that could have happenedā. But it did Protech, it did. The owner was not helpful at all, did not apologize and did not take responsibility for the instrument in his businessā care.
DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO THIS BUSINESS. The number of horror stories I have heard from colleagues off of the back this is astounding. Look elsewhere.
ADDITIONAL.
As I am unable to comment on Protech's response please allow me to add their tech's did not contact me to tell me it was unrepairable. All discussions were initiated by me. There was also no initial estimate that I received, verbally or in writing.
Both items came back with problems that were not initially present and as you can read in their response they are not taking responsibility for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne star is not something I give lightly. Even fast food restaurants get two to three from me. The only experience I've had at this place was legitimately bad. In early 2020 I brought my grandfather's Fender Rhodes to get serviced. It took a decent amount of time to get to the front of their service line and hear back, which was expected so I wasn't put off yet. However it took a long time for the work to get completed, which in retrospect was not worth the wait, and I'm not entirely sure what they were spending all that time doing. I fortunately was able to pick up the piano before the non-essential business shutdown in April 2020, and while I was there I decided the try out a Mackie MIDI DAW controller. Within a few weeks I was able to get my studio set up to accommodate the newly repaired piano and the Mackie controller, and so I was able to try everything out fully. I'll start with the controller: it was advertised as fully functional, but it was not. I was luckily able to return it for a refund once their business was able to open back up in the summer. The piano almost immediately started to have problems; I picked it up on March 25th and sent an email they never replied to about the issue on April 19th. The amp would buzz and distort and pop when I turned it on and off, not something you want to notice after paying $500 in repairs. I had even told them that I would be using this piano professionally in both studio and performance work, so they knew their repairs needed to be able to support heavy use of the instrument. When I returned the Mackie in the summer I was able to talk to them, go over the emails that they never replied to, but they gave me this attitude, 'we know the work we did was good, sorry you're having trouble but you need to bring it back here and let us fix it,' even though I had already spent a decent amount of money and expected the thing to be fixed the first time... The piano eventually died on Christmas Eve during a performance, and I was forced to swap to a backup keyboard. It's a shame. Both the electrical service and customer service were inadequate and unsatisfactory. I will be visiting any other repair shop...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took in my Pioneer XDJ-1000mk2 for a repair due to a standby light flashing on a Saturday. To diagnose, it was $50 and the estimate time to have an answer was over 2 weeks so I paid an additional $50 to have it "rushed". The unwelcoming lady eating lunch at the front desk told me that I would get a call by Monday after the problem was diagnosed. No call was received on my end so I called on Wednesday to check on the status. The "tech" states I had to replace the lcd and main motherboard on the XDJ estimating $700+ of work in addition to the $100 I paid previously. After waiting a couple days I authorize the repairs. A few weeks later I get a call saying the parts did not fix my problem. Then I receive another estimate upwards of $900 and no guarantee that it will fix my problem. I declined the repairs since a brand new XDJ is about $1200. I picked up my xdj and had to pay $125 due to a "restocking fee". The owner credited me the $50 I payed for the rush so I only had to pay $75 for picking up my equipment that was unable to get repaired and diagnosed properly. I'm down $125 and still have an unusable piece of equipment. I wouldn't take any DJ equipment here for repairs even though its the only shop able to look at it in the region. The estimates on time were wrong for getting an answer after diagnosing the issue and the estimate for how long it would take to receive/install the parts. Save your time & money, go...
