Despite having gone to the West Tech area for almost all my life, I have only started eating at Potbelly since last year. Sandwiches are one of my favorite foods because of the numerous ingredients, both traditionally and new. It is also the difference between a sandwich from home and a sandwich from a restaurant. I usually go to this Potbelly in particular once or twice a week and I have always been satisfied with the service from the workers on the line. While some people are better at certain roles than others, ultimately they still get the sandwiches ready and accordingly. I normally don't get complex orders, so I'm not sure how those work out for other patrons, however its great for me.
If you have never been to a Potbelly and are looking to try for the first time, here are some instructions on how to order: 1.) If you can't see the menu or want to look at it up close, there are paper copies of them on the wall to the left of the decorative potbelly stove. The menus are a white booklet with a stamp on the back with the address of the Potbelly. 2.) The line for this Potbelly starts where the bottled drink refrigerators are. The way it goes is that you start from the back of the restaurant and make your way closer to the door. If there are people in line in front of the chips, they are not waiting to order. If there are people standing behind the fountain drink cups, then they are in line. 3.) When it is your turn to order, tell the worker what size, bread type, and meat you want. For example: skinny, multigrain, chicken salad. They might ask you for the cheese you want or simply put the default on the menu. Simply tell them what you prefer if it matters to you. You have the option to order a soup from here, but I prefer ordering it later. 4.) They will put the sandwich on the toaster and you will move to the left. You will be presented with chips. You simply grab whichever you want. There is a deal if you get a regular fountain drink, chips, and a simple skinny sandwich (minus roast beef and tuna salad). Chip are optional, not necessary. 5.) Once you reach the end of the chips, you will be asked what you got. Restate what you said before. This is to make sure the sandwich doesn't get confused with someone else's since they get online orders as well. They will ask you what you want on it. The list of toppings is on a cabinet behind the worker. I usually get "everything no hot peppers". 6.) The person will give you your sandwich, to which you go to the cashier on the left. They will ask you what you got, so you state what you said to everyone else, but adding what you grabbed on the way (not including toppings unless they cost extra). You can order your soup here, get a dream bar/cookie, or milkshake. 7.) Finish and pay. (If it isn't busy, they might ask you if you want to pay before you get your sandwich.)
As for the food itself, well, its a sandwich. They aren't stingy on the meats, but that is more with how the Potbelly company itself dictates the weight of the meat than the people behind the counter. The quality of their ingredients are also very good. I'm not entirely sure how to explain it, but the lettuce feels fresh and crunchy and the tomatoes are a good in between of soft and hard. I like to get the soups. I have only really tried the broccoli cheddar and the chicken pot pie soup. I prefer the broccoli cheddar soup because the broccoli and the carrots melt in the mouth while the soup has a nice flavor. Depending one when you decide to eat the soup over the course of your meal, it will have a different taste due to the temperature. I like to eat mine at the end of the meal because it will still be warm and won't burn my mouth into oblivion. As for the chicken pot pie, which is a soup, the pie crust added to the middle of the cup adds both flavor and texture that makes it stand out. I was hesitant at first to try it since I was worried it would just be a pot pie, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a...
Read moreBEWARE ! Ghetto personnel. A Sandwhich maker responded to my request to lightly toast the brown by yelling no I'm not. She rolled her eyes and popped her lips. ( yes she looked like every stereotype you can imagine) All the other customers in line just looked at her and shook their head. I told her she might wanna calm down since her rudeness was unbecoming and unnecessary (I mean we' re talking about bread here) That only made her louder and more indignant. She said " I AINT gonna burn my hand for nobody " I'm not even sure what she was referring to with the burn. She kept yelling about she didnt have to do anything so I asked for the manager. Sam, the manager looked at the girl and never said one word to her. She just kept making sandwiches. She never apologized for the sandwich makers ridiculous behavior. Not sure how corporate will deal with the complaint but I will say beware. If an employee is not concerned about the very bottom basics like common decency, trust me they aren't concerned about ensuring more intricate levels of quality are being met. I don't imagine they are concerned with contamination prevention, washing hands, keeping food temperatures within industry standards, adhering to food spoilage prevention, etc. If employees don't care how they appear to you when you're looking at them, they definitely give no cares when you're not looking. BEWARE! * The downtown Silver Spring location is a much better option. You will consistently get exceptional service, delicious food, and it's only a couple miles away. Skip Tech Road if you're looking for even just a...
Read moreI go to potbelly's regularly, several times a month. I don't normally go to this location but it was on my way home today from some errands I ran. I ordered through the app. I got there at the time it said it would be ready but it wasn't in the order pickup shelf, so I waited by the soda machines which are directly next to the kitchen/register. It was busy so I figured they were running behind, even though none of them acknowledged me or told me that even though they saw and made eye contact with me. After about 20 minutes I realized they either didn't get my order at all or something was wrong, so I said "excuse me" to get the attention of the girl at the register, and she looked at me annoyed and as if I had three heads. I asked her if my order had come through yet, because I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it slipped through the cracks. She asked me my name, then walked over to a table that had 6-7 other sandwiches sitting there and grabbed mine. It had been there literally the entire time I was standing there, over 20 minutes. I guess I was supposed to read their minds and know that they were holding it back there instead of putting it on the pickup shelf. Maybe they thought I was standing by the kitchen for 20 minutes just for fun. The order was also inaccurate. I asked them to remove the roast beef on the wreck and replace it with more salami. Honestly, if they had just removed the roast beef and not added more salami, that would've been fine but they didn't even remove the roast beef. They also put swiss instead...
