I discovered Gamers Island via a Google search as I was looking for a venue to host our son's college trunk/send off party, and I thought this was the PERFECT venue because his area of study will be Game Design and Animation. I sent inquiry, and Ms. Tashauna Parker responded. I scheduled a tour which was lead by Ms. Ashley, and fell in love with everything I saw. As a result I booked the venue for our event. Once we booked I had questions about logistics. For example, "What is the best way to set up in order to maximize space and flow?" While I didn't receive clear suggestions I was able to find pictures on their website, and was able to use them to form a vision. My first critique would be timely and effective communication. I mention this because there were times I didn't receive a response from an email for a couple of days which is a pretty long time when trying to plan an event. Also, we didn't receive any information as to what games were available. When we arrived the day of our event, 8/10, the ramp was blocked by the company van which made it very difficult to unload our items and delayed our set-up process. Eventually Ms. Parker was kind enough to move the van and we were able to get in and out more quickly. She then introduced me to her lead staffer JJ, who I never saw again after that introduction, and left. Before I go any further let me just say my interactions with Ms. Parker and Ms. Ashley were wonderful. When I got inside and was able to take a look I was very pleased with the layout, and appreciated the fact they adhered to my requests and fully executed my vision. My second critique would be lighting in the back part of the venue near the party room. It was pretty dark back there which created low visibility. There is a small area on the floor by the party room that was not leveled and some guest stumbled. Thankfully no one fell. I asked the staff if they could turn on more light and was told they could not. I would also add to this the venue was warm to the point some of my guest started fanning themselves to cool off. In the back gaming area one of my guest sat in a chair not knowing it was broken, and when he leaned back he fell to the floor. Your staff members where siting back there playing games, which I thought was odd, and not paying attention. I literally had to go tap one them on the shoulder to get his attention. There where other chairs close to where they were sitting and when he went to get another chair he was told those were also broken. To be honest I was surprised no adults were there, just teenagers left in charge. I had to find someone to pull our trash. I would think they would check the party room periodically, but they didn't. They also didn't have the VR room set up for us to use. About 2 hours into our event this lady shows up whom I've never had any communication with looking for me. She came down the hall towards the party room and introduces herself as the co-owner and that I was supposed to settle my balance before my event started. She was loud, rude, and unprofessional. If this is true, why didn't Ms. Parker ask me for the payment? We arrived at 2:00 PM, the event didn't start until 3:00 PM, so it certainly could have been taken care of before we started. Also, why didn't one of your staff members ask me for payment if it should have been collected prior to the start of the event? I was told it had to be paid the day of the event which we were prepared to do, so I didn't understand the need for the rude tone or unpleasant look on this person's face. Again, very unprofessional. Putting all of this aside, my son and his guests had...
Read moreOverall, I would DEFINITELY bring my son for another visit, if he asked. The facility was clean, it smelled good, check in was basically an ease, the gentleman checked in with us. The only reason I couldn’t give 5 stars was because my son really wanted to play fortnight and it was unavailable on all TVs. We checked in at noon. Once we sat down my son began to try and get on fortnight. The tv displayed a message that said it needed to be updated. He waited about 5 minutes. At that time I told my son that he should play something else while we wait. About 2/3 minutes later we got a notification that it was ready. We waited another 3/4 minutes and the tv said that we needed to free up some space. At this point it’s about 12:11 pm. I notified one of the gentleman, he came over and started to erase some other games as we waited. That took a few minutes. The game STILL wouldn’t download. He summoned help. The next gentleman came and suggested we switch TVs. He went to another tv to set up fortnight just to find that THAT tv need to free up some Space as well! At this point it’s about 12:17 or so. Again, I told my son “while they figure fortnight out, let’s go back to this tv and play”. He resumed playing on the original tv and a few minutes later I heard the guy say “I think they’re updating the game all together. We’ll let you know when it’s ready” They next time an employee said anything to us was at 12:45 when he said (very politely!) “excuse ma’am, your timer will be up at 1, would you like to extend it?” I replied no. Mainly because the game my son wanted to play, he couldn’t, no one had ever followed up after we spent about 15 minutes waiting on them to figure it out, and I could tell the my son was a little bummed about not getting to play fortnight. I wouldn’t portray having “a horrible time” at all. But at bare minimum I would have appreciated the time back that we waited. Had we been able to ply the one game he wanted, this would have been an...
