Friendly and helpful staff. Large number of gaming tables. Maybe a tad dark inside and were out of stock on several staple items I was looking for (a number of holes in their Army Painter individual bottles stock and GW models).
On my second visit, I walked away completely empty-handed because they were again out of stock on the painting items I was seeking. The staff member in the store was friendly and helpful, but I kinda felt I got the run around about a trade I was attempting after he called the owner... Oh well, I completed the trade and made my purchases elsewhere, which was around a $260 miss for Level Up.
Response to owner supply: There appear to have been communication issues between the employee in the store and the owner during their phone call.
It's unfortunate that the wires got crossed on this one as I had really wanted to give you the business as, overall, I find the store a very interesting and generally friendly experience. I would really like to see the place in action on a game/tournament night.
I have increased my rating by a star as I think there was more misunderstanding than anything else in...
Read moreThere are few places where I walk in and just feel "this is my place, and I belong here."
Level Up Gaming is one of those places.
Family-owned, staffed entirely by gamers, and always looking to get the best deals on the products their customers are looking for, this place is an absolute delight! They do custom orders where possible, have plenty of tables, games, and wargaming elements free-to-use so that you can try before you buy, play games with friends, or simply settle down in a corner and paint your models. They also do consignment and hold frequent events and tournaments. The best part, though, is the private gaming room, where a gaming troupe can set up in a quiet space away from the activity of a busy weekend afternoon.
My friends and I rented the private room to play Star Wars, CONAN, and the World of Darkness games at least once a month before they moved, and $10/hour is really cheap split among a group of eight players!
The building's location makes parking a bit difficult on busy days, but that's a fair trade-off to be so close to various places to grab a pre- or post-game meal. There's even a collection of menus in the snack area for places that deliver to the location, and a microwave, coffee maker, and vending machines make it easy to keep everyone energized between matches or while the GM is setting up the next big encounter.
If you can't find what you need, just ring the bell at the desk and the staff will be quick to point you in the right direction, whether it's a bite to eat, a beverage, or a special shade of paint...
Read moreStore runs good events and has a lot of products. Customer service on the other hand is weird. Aside from awkward transactions, a couple weeks ago I was playing warhammer with my friend who recently joined the hobby and bought two armies at this store. His wife dropped off some food for him and he was eating it over the gaming space, which is not good and is against the rules, but I was focusing on the game not thinking too much to it. The store owner shouted at him and got in his face, the entire store went silent, and we had to listen to like a minute rant belittling my friend. Like I get it, as someone who managed a game store for four years, customers breaking rules can get annoying. But even when someone has stolen from our store or cheated, you address these cases in private and have some tact. Guy thought it was his second time too, but my friend has only been playing me and I never saw him eating and if he was and I wasn't there, he said he never got a warning. Right after this encounter some family left their kid eating cheez-its on the table next to us, and the kid was smashing them into the table. Didn’t see that kids father get publicly scolded for breaking the rules. Definitely a shame because my friend and I have played dozens of games and spent thousands of dollars there, now it’s awkward for us to even walk into the store, and I didn’t even do anything 😂. We play...
