On Monday August 4th 2025, I entered the premises of Saunders Jewelry, in Flemington for the first time, ever. A few weeks prior, I purchased a replacement chain for a jade pendant, however, the clasp for the new chain was too large to thread thru the pendant bail. I spoke with Nancy Saunders and requested that the clasp on the chain be removed, allowing the chain to thread thru the pendant bail, and then replaced. Nancy agreed this was doable; she indicated that it would be a minimal cost.
I called 3 days later and was told that the job would take approximately 3 weeks to complete. No problem! On Monday, 8/18, I received a call from the store to say that the chain/pendant was now ready for pickup. My husband picked up the item on Thursday and paid the bill. However, when I examined what was done, I was very dissatisfied. Instead of doing as I had requested, “they” replaced the decorative pendant bail with a plain circular hoop bail.
I returned to the store on Friday and pointed out to Nancy that the work I requested had not been done. Instead of acknowledging the discrepancy, she became defensive – told me everything that was done was as we had agreed. I disagreed and told her that I wanted to have the original bail returned to me – showed her a picture of the pendant so we were both in agreement regarding what was to be returned. Nancy took the chain/pendant from me, went into the work room and returned a few minutes later to say that “they” would rectify the problem. Two hours later I received a call from her to say that the chain/pendant was ready for pickup. I returned to the store; she handed me an envelope containing the items. She also handed me a credit card slip, refunding the original payment - $26.66 and summarily told me not to ever return to their store – she did not like my attitude… I departed with my chain/pendant and credit for the original amount charged.
For better than 25 years we were patrons of the Sherman jewelry establishment, also in Flemington. We developed good relationships with the owner and management team; 99% of all our jewelry purchases was thru the Sherman Store. We were extremely disappointed when Sherman decided to close their store in Flemington. On August 13th, I thought that Saunders Jewelry would be the replacement for the now departed Shermans; sadly, that will not be the case.
Flemington is a relatively small community; and the objective of most businesses in the area is to develop an interactive and communal relationship with its customers - clearly needed, in order for them to survive and grow. Based on my experience, along with the trove of negative comments posted on various review sites, the Saunders appear not to be in step with this objective. One can only assume that the original owners – the parents of Ed Saunders, bought into the communal approach to doing business – they would not have survived as long as they did, without it. A direct message needs to be delivered to the current owners – Ed and Nancy Saunders. The customer always comes first; without them, there is no business. Obnoxious and impolite behavior will not be tolerated and the consequences will be a severe decline in patronage and business volume. As a community this message MUST be delivered to the current owners – Ed and...
Read moreBEWARE of other Jeweler!!! I took my watch into Saunders Jewelers in Flemington for a new battery, it was a busy Saturday, the weekend before Christmas and they happily took the watch into the backroom replaced the battery and seal for $15 and it now works good as new. GREAT people & customer service. HERE IS THE CAVEAT.... I originally brought my watch to Sherman and sons in Bridgewater for a new battery, the salesperson said there was something wrong with the watch and it had to be sent back to the manufacturer, charging me $25 for shipping cost. 6 weeks later they call and said the watch needed a total overhaul and it would cost $375 to fix so I declined and asked for the watch back which took another 6 weeks to get ugh. I very rarely write a review unless it is exceptionally good service like this was today or exceptionally bad service like I received from...
Read moreJust want to give a shout out so Saunders Jewelry store in flemington. My engagement ring had a large diamond fall out, brought it back to the store where it was purchased and the owners, Ed and his wife Nancy, were so exceptional. They went above and beyond what we expected, Ed determined there was a defect in the setting that caused the diamond to fall out. So he had the company replace the setting, reset the diamond and resized it for me. Any other franchise type jewelry store would have made us go through the insurance we have on it instead of standing by their product and personally taking care of us. We are so happy we chose Saunders and won't we going anywhere else for future...
