New Game Plus+ — Local services in Florence

We have been shopping at the store since it opened. I (and sometimes my wife) are in there at least 1x every 1-2 weeks. I have very bad anxiety, and its one of the few places (along with Galactic Comics, Jem Mint Collectibles and a few restaurants) where I feel safe when I need to get out of the house.

During my typical visit, I/we can fart around and play the free play arcade games up front for 30-50 minutes. No one ever pressures us to move on, not have a good time, etc. I can pop Crazy Taxi as much as I want. Then, I can sit and scroll through the shelves of PS2, N64, SNES, and NES games for however long I want. I do A LOT of eBay browsing at home; and the N64, GC, DC, etc. game prices are cheaper than I could get the games from eBay. Furthermore, the prices are also slightly better than the other great retro game shop in this part of SC/NC.

The staff is fantastic and well informed. They have coined me a regular, but they still inform me of certain policies that apply to everyone, such as the 14-day limit for pickup when I drop a system off for repairs (3x now - GBC, DC and GC). They treat me the same as everyone else. They respond to my inquiries about various repairs as quickly as humanly possible. I have been to the shop as much as any nonemployee, and I have never seen the staff treat anyone inappropriately.

Finally, they are more honest than any other shop/seller I have encountered. I consider myself an expert on assessing N64 games, including spotting repros. I have 1 friend who wouldn't know the difference and buys N64 games here. I have been at 1 retailer at the beach that has multiple locations and at multiple con booths where N64 repros were sold, and the sellers all attempted to pass them off as legit, including with the "legit game" prices. This is the ONLY seller I have ever seen that had an N64 game that was a repro and labeled it as such, not attempting to fool people into buying a legit copy at full price.

Terrible customer service. Shop is cool and chill. Prices are good and comparable to anywhere else. The only thing that stands out is the poor, pretentious customer service. If someone comes in to inquire about system repairs, the response shouldn’t be, “oh that sounds like a question for the owner but he isn’t here”. That has been the case the past 3 times I have gone in to inquire about getting something fixed. The employee could have at least offered to take down information or offer to hold the console until the owner was available. Oh, and they did mention leaving it for the owner to look at but not to me. They just discussed it amongst themselves as I walked away. As someone who has worked in retail for years, this is how you eventually go out of business. Im sure online sales are where the majority of the stores money is made but building and maintaining customer relations in the store should have some weight of value. I will give them another try as I aim to support local businesses but I won’t support a place that speaks to their customers in a condescending and pompous manner. I’ve heard about the outrageous customer service, the unfair prices, & many other things about this place. But I’ve witnessed disrespect first hand today. Too many times we spend our money with people that has no respect for us. Friendly when spending money but when you need an exchange or refund it’s a BIG PROBLEM.. They’ll literally curse you out over it. & try to run you out of the store in order to distract you from what’s really going on. You literally need to have the cops on standby dealing with these clowns.. Save yourself the hassle and either go to game stop or purchase from marketplace.. Go anywhere but this place. They’re fine as long as you don’t want to replace or exchange your item. Even if it’s been less than 24 hours.. You can spend 200$ & they’ll offer you 50$. I’m only sharing this experience because this is the second time I’ve had to write a BAD review.. DO NOT SHOP HERE THEY ARE LEGIT RIPOFFS.
