This review is really conflicting to write for me, as I have been here many times, and I love the selection they have here.
However, I have been mistreated here by an employee at the counter that I interacted with that day. Maybe you're reading this further and going, "Oh, a Karen review, this doesn't matter." I ask that you finish the review before you write me off like that.
Bizarre Bazaar was the place where I got my first used record, it was a Cheap Trick album I got for 10$ in 2019. Ever since then I have been to Bizarre Bazaar plenty of times, adding to my collection some really exceptional records such as a flawless 1st edition print of The Wall. You can maybe start to see why this review is conflicting, because I really do love the things they have brought me and offered me throughout the years.
The problem... well if it was any other day, any other moment in time except for that day, I wouldn't be here writing this review. I don't live in Fort Collins anymore, I drove 40+ minutes across NoCo to come here to try and sell a record for money that I desperately needed. I brought what I thought was a 1st edition print of Marty Robbins Ballad and Trail songs, but I was incorrect. The guy behind the counter, who was wearing a blockbuster t-shirt took the record from me, examined the record, and became visibly irritated. He asked me (without mentioning that it isn't what I thought it was) what I wanted for it, asked about a 1/3rd of what I knew the price of a 1st edition print was, and he became condescendingly immediately. Upon asking for that price he pursed his lips, silently shook his head and handed it back to me. I asked him what's wrong and then told me in a tone that indicated that I was wasting his time. Tell me about it man, I drove 40+ minutes to try and sell a record for money that I desperately needed to put a pet down. That day. That I did no more than 3 hours after I left the store.
I was wrong, that's okay. I would've gladly taken a "No thank you, we can't do that", but that isn't what he did. He could've kindly explained that it wasn't what I thought it was, and pointed out the differences, instead he treated me like I was stupid and said what the differences were. He could've gone about this so many other different ways than the way he did, and I wouldn't be here writing this review.
On that day, I was going through a terrible set of emotions, all the ones that come with putting down a pet that you love so damn much. If he had treated me with even a hint of respect or understanding that I didn't know what I didn't know, he wouldn't have added onto that shitty day. But he did. Whoever you are at the store, wearing that Blockbuster shirt, I hope you're reading this review. I hope you realize that you can never realistically know what battle a person is fighting behind the scenes. Behind my optimistic demeanor and my politeness I gave you that day, I was dealing with immense foreboding grief and sadness knowing what was coming later that day. I needed that money to make some ends meet so I could ensure my pet didn't have to suffer anymore, and all you could think in that interaction is how I was inconveniencing a mere few minutes of your time. I ended up putting her down, and I went without some things for a few days.
You didn't have to be a jerk, but unfortunately when it comes to vinyl there's an air of snobbery that pervades the hobbyists. I love Bizarre Bazaar, but due to your actions I don't know if I will ever return. That terrible day I went through will always be associated with the added on pain that happened...
Read moreTried to come in and was disgusted by the terrible service given by the woman at the counter. I cannot wear a mask due to severe asthma and weak lung function. Most stores have recommendations urging people to wear masks, however, people who have weak lung function cannot be made to wear a mask. I didn’t want to have to argue about it so I turned towards the door and the lady starts yelling about “THE LAW” . I could have walked out quietly, but you decided to raise your voice and make a scene. Don’t preach to me about the law, because you are in violation of ADA law by requiring me to wear a mask with my low functioning lungs, which can severely impact my health. There’s more of a chance that I’ll trigger a severe asthma attack than contracting covid with the ONE other customer in there. Also, it’s not a law it’s an ordinance. It wasn’t voted on; the local government made a recommendation. Yes, you can deny service, but first be aware if you’re denying service to someone who has a legitimate health concern. Yes I have asthma, but that doesn’t mean I should be confined to home because of it. Maybe I should get a lawyer and see if ADA laws have more legal standing than the temp local ordinance. Maybe you should look it up lady.
Edit: there was one other person in the store so in sure with there being 2 separate rooms that you could enforce social distancing, however you opted not to go the extra mile and put up the plexiglass barrier as recommended by the county and placing signs on your floor. That’s laziness not, inability. Also, as I was already turning to walk out, you decided to yell and raise your voice and SCREAM about the “LAW”. Maybe then, you should have allowed me to leave quietly without the verbal assault. I didn’t want to bother mentioning my condition considering that I was actually walking out to get a mask, as I was very interested in your store. But rather than allow me to walk out quietly, you started screaming. Also from the Fort Collins government page: “ If a face covering would cause you implement due to an existing health condition, documented by a health professional, you are not required to wear a mask “.
Also from the city page: “Please have compassion for people who chose not to wear a mask for fear of discrimination and do your part to create a safe environment for the people of our community.”
Under HIPPA and ADA laws I do not have to disclose my medical condition, only state that I am exempt from the ordinance. I chose to walk out and follow the guidelines, but you decided to scream at me and cause a scene, so why would I bother coming back in to act civilized to someone who chose to violate my rights? I believe Poudre Valley Feed has a lawsuit brewing for asking a woman with oxygen to wear a mask, perhaps...
Read moreRude owner. She literally complained about my service dog being off leash. By the way, she had a vest and a leash on. She was lying on the floor next to me with her leash attached to her vest and I wasn’t holding on to it. I was looking through records, and didn’t have a free hand. So I left and decided not to do business there. No big deal, right? Almost… But on my way out, her dog lunged out from the counter at my service dog. And when I asked her why that dog was not on a leash, she literally said “I’m the owner so I can do whatever I want.” Not very professional and not the sharpest tool in the shed if she’s trying to run a solid business. I won’t ever go back. Very disappointing experience.
Came back after reading other reviews. The owner of this place is just mean to people (and animals). I bet her response to this review is mean… watch! Also, wanted to say that I went to ALL SALES VINYL in Old Town, and the sales lady was so lovely to both me and my dog. My dog was allowed to lie down next to me while I thumbed through records. I completely understand rules, but human kindness goes a long way. The owner at this place is unkind, and I’d take my business elsewhere if that matters to you.
Update in response to owner’s reply:
I was not offended by your policy, and I’m certainly not offended by the ADA’s policies. I chose to leave politely, which is my prerogative and has zero to do with this review.
Instead of actually responding to the concerns in my review, you are deflecting from the issues - which were your attitude and how you treated me, and more importantly the fact that your own dog lunged at my service dog as we exited your store. Oh, and let’s not forget your comment about getting to do whatever you want because you’re the owner. Seriously? That just shows how much you care about your customers.
You know you’re rude. There are multiple reviews from multiple customers citing your dismissive behavior. Moreover, just reading your responses to negative reviews here is revealing. You blame everyone else for everything. But, it’s your business! You literally blame your customers for leaving one star reviews. 🤦♀️ Then you sign off, like you did to me, with some sarcastic “best wishes.” Do you realize people read these reviews? Ya know, I am a nice person. I didn’t deserve the way you treated me at your store and I don’t deserve the way you ignored the legitimate concerns in my review. Neither does...
