Pendery's World of Chiles and Spices: Fort Worth — Local services in Fort Worth

Visited the store on Monday afternoon, Feb. 1,at 5 PM until 5:49 PM. I have shopped at the store many times, including for years while it was located on Belknap, next to the Tarrant County Courthouse. I have also referred many friends there as I always make my chili from "scratch" and buy rub, there. I bought $86.39 worth of spices. My wife is Ukrainian/ Russian so I spoke Russian to her about several things, mostly regarding the spices. The individual working there was nice enough but took issue with our speaking a different language and my innocuous comments about literature. He started telling us that he was an "linguistics expert", Jewish, had experienced terrible abuse from "Rednecks" and that I was stupid. I tried to agree with him (my grandfather Berthay was Jewish), but I grew up in Fort Worth and California and have many Jewish friends. He was very agitated and kept shouting at me and calling me the stupidest person in the world. I was paying for my purchase as he waved his arms and shouted insult after insult at me and my wife. She ran to the car and started crying. I never raised my voice and certainly made no insults. He was especially angry because I replied that the Indo-European languages are analytical and Asian languages are "tonal". At this, he flew into a rage and kept shouting very insulting invectives. I said, "My sister-in-law for over 40 years is Japanese, speaks Japanese, and is very close and dear to me." He screamed that he didn't give a damn, I was the blah, blah, stupidest, most ignorant, blah, blah whatever. I never insulted him, never raised my voice. I quickly left without replying anymore to his shouting rant. My wife was crying and had locked the doors of our truck. She thought the clerk might attack me so she had her phone out to call the police. I assured her that the poor man was just miserable and delusional, and that we should just feel sorry for the guy. We did not do anything wrong, therefore we should not feel bad. Now that would be irrational. This individual needs psychological help, but we will never return to Pendery's or recommend it to anyone. 👎👎👎👎👎SUPER MAD RIGHT NOW!!! I don’t even leave reviews but this experience deserves one!!!! It’s sad it’s 2025 and some things will never change. The older lady, Rude and does not create a very inviting place shop. I’d leave a negative 5 stars if I could. My friend boasted about how good this places spices are so we went today. Now keep in mind they don’t close until 5 on Saturday and we arrived around 1035 this morning. The moment we walked in the lady seemed like she had a problem with us being in the store. As im trying to shop she keeps walking back and forth behind me and zooming around the store in the rooms that we are in. We weren’t there for more than 5 mins and barely made it thru the store to look at all the spices. She comes around the corner and says she’s sorry but she has to close the store to take care of her online orders. Who tf does that when people are shopping and you literally just opened??? I kindly sat my items down and left. I’m not shopping with any place in 2025 that treats anyone like they are not equal. Horrible experience and never felt so uncomfortable trying to spend money somewhere. Racist??? Possibly. Won’t be spending my money here EVER!!!!! No way to treat customers. I received some of the most distasteful service here that I've seen from ANY store including Walmart. Was rushed from the minute the old lady unlocked the door to the moment she tried to tell me her computer wasn't working and that she'd have to restart it. I told her I'll wait since I drove 20 minutes here just to be rushed out 5 minutes later. Without restarting the computer it magically worked right away. I paid for my 1 bag I had time to grab then left. Don't open the store if you're going to push paying customers out.
