Seymour Solar: This is my third attempt to send a review to you - every time I tried to attach my photos I was closed out of the text portion, and so could not send it to you. If you could send me your email address for these reviews ( chetride@gmail ) I will send you some photos. I taught high school earth science and astronomy, and as early as 1985 I was telling students about this upcoming eclipse. My brother and I drove south from Pennsylvania to a point slated for totality and clear skies (we used weather reports on the internet), located on the border of northwest Georgia and North Carolina. There we stayed in a campground for two nights, then setting up my telescope (a Parks 4" Jovian 4) complete with Semour Solar filter and using two pair of solar glasses. Everything worked OK except for the fact that I had removed my Telrad finder, and with the sun being at such a steep angle I found it difficult to locate the sun (perhaps you should sell filters for finder scopes?). My brother worked out a way to find it by measuring the shadow of the scope on the mounting. About 40 people were in the area, and all had a chance to look at the sun through the telescope; we also took photos through the eyepiece with my Nikon and Darryl's cell phone. Totality was glorious - a black circle in the sky surrounded by a surprisingly bright corona - and I took photos of it with my camera at longest telephoto setting. We also showed people the crescent images under the trees. The Seymour Solar filter worked very well, and I've packed it away for future use on the 2024 total eclipse, which will be a shorter drive for us! Regards,...
Read morethe seymore filter i purchased for my nikon D3400 DSLR worked perfectly. I shared the eclipse experience with all my neighbors.although our eclipse here in the nothheastern U.S. was not total,we were at 70%.I live in southern New ENGLAND,specificlly Rhode Island.Still none the less spectacular. My neighbors have 3 little girls, who when viewed this eclipse were totally transfixed and amazed at the event unfolding before their eyes. The solar filter purchased from seymore worked perfectly, excellent workmanship and construction.I will definately be considering another seymore solar filter for a telescope with a nikon camera mount.although i can not produce viewable pictures,I wish to thank seymore and their staff,as well as all involved in manufacturing this product.just the amazement of the younger generation at this spectacle in the heavens was enough for me.These kids will remember this experience for a lifetime, and maybe be further interested in astronomy as they grow up. woundn't it be truly amazing if just one of these children became a professional astronmer because of my seymore solar filter experience. they brought tears of joy to me just to see the expressions on their faces as this event progressed before them.christmas in august.I will be preparing for a near total eclipse here in 2023(90% totality).what an awesome creator we have.thank you all at seymore solar filters.please inform manufacturing personnel of the awesome product they produced.they should be praised for their workmanship and effort involved in this product. Thanks,...
Read moreBought slip-on filters for binoculars and telescope and threaded filters for 2 camera lenses in preparation for the eclipse. The sizes for the bins and scope were right at the high end of the appropriate slip on filter sizes so, as suggested, I picked the next larger sizes. These both ended up too big to be locked on by the screw alone. I then discovered that there were felt spacers provided to "glue" inside the filters, opposite the screw, to center the filter on the lens. The instructions glibly said "glue" them in. It did look like they might have peel off self adhesive backs but I couldn't separate the backing from the felt. I called on a Friday to get better instructions but no answer and left a message, no call back. Called again Monday and finally got someone - office closed Friday - it would have been good to say that on the message. Turns out that the felts are peel off self adhesive and eventually I have them installed. With the thick felt installed the screw secures the filters snugly in place on both scope and bins. I have used all filters to look at the sun and they seem to work well. Just a bit annoyed by the poor service and documentation about felt installation.
The filters all worked perfectly for the eclipse. We had stunning views of it from near Idaho Falls and got great pictures and views through the binoculars and telescope. I really liked the orange color of the sun through the Seymour filters, we saw other peoples filters and they produced a white image, not...
