Edit: Updated from 3 to 5 stars due to the business' response to the situation. I was contacted directly via email regarding this review, and without going into the personal details, I can say that their response to the situation was absolutely stellar. I'm still not sure if it's for me exactly, but with customer care like that, I feel very safe saying that you should give this place a shot. Absolutely uncanny, I've never had a business in this city care that much about my business. It was encouraging enough that I may very well go back, even despite my somewhat less-than-ideal experience with fitting the headset on.
Original Review: I'll open with a quick summary:
Basically, the VR was a pretty fun experience and, I felt, worth the cost of admission. You should give it a shot. However, personally, it's not something I'm clawing at the door to repeat.
Now on to the details:
There were a few latency issues in the tracking, which could be expected in a setup with multiple players and something as computationally complex as a VR game. Regardless, it did make it hard to PLAY the game effectively, and at times was a little nausea-inducing.
The BIGGEST problem for me, and probably a good part of why the experience wasn't one I want to repeat, was that the headsets are NOT made for people who have a large frame. I've got a big head (I wear a size 7 3/4 hat) and I'm 6'4" tall. The backpack/vest type setup that you wear on your chest fit me poorly, and the headset was PHENOMENALLY uncomfortable. The focus adjusters, somehow, just caused the headset to pinch the bridge of my nose, and it was literally impossible for me to adjust it in such a way that I could actually see what I was looking at; my nose pushed the focus back out of view, so it was like not wearing my glasses, except much worse. The pressure on my head and particularly the bridge of my nose left my face sore for two days after our 30 minute session. My smaller friends who I was with seemed to enjoy it well enough though, so take that into consideration.
I adore the concept, and I hope VR tech can advance in such a way as to be more widely inclusive of people who are outside of the average, whether it be unusually tall, short, skinny, heavy, etc. I also hope that as our computing ability becomes more and more powerful for less and less cost, we can resolve some of the performance issues as well.
In all, it's worth a spin and I recommend you give it a try. Maybe you'll have a more comfortable experience than I did. Despite all of my gripes, it WAS fun... just not fun enough for me, personally, to come back...
Read moreGreat experience gaming. Took a date there for what was a very fun 30 minutes... now what went wrong to give them 1 star. Our beginning time was 830... we didn't enter the game until 930, they were somehow an hour late... they asked us to come back at 910... we live 30 minutes away so honestly we couldn't go back home and had to wait there... there was a seperate party in the raceway so the bar was closed. We were then forced outside to the place called Mavericks which had 1 server and 1 bartender for the patio on a Saturday night packed house. It took 45 minutes just to get a Diet coke and a mixed drink. We Aldo placed an appetizer order that never arrived during that 45 minute wait. When we finally came back to play VR we were forced to wait another 20 minutes. The disclosure and rules took up most of that time and the explanation was very well handled. Now an hour late we finally got to play the game. The temperature inside the game room was so warm that everyone left full of sweat... and for a game where there is very little movement... it was obviously just way too hot. The treasure outside was in the 60s so being drenched in sweat and then going outside on a date was great... (sarcasm of course). Overall the gaming was fun however during gameplay my gun disappeared off my hud 3 different times so it became impossible to shoot. Another issue that happened is my goggles went black not once but twice during gameplay. So once each game we played. It would have been fun to have 2 seperate games each for 15 minutes if it's not a full 30 minutes of straight gameplay but all in all it was fun. The stats afterwards were also fun to see but honestly if you can't make the temperature any better in that place, it's definitely not the place to take a date... which is unfortunate since I've seen a few people on Insta say it was a great date idea. I did leave uncomfortable and not satisfied with the experience based on the MASSIVE delay in start time, the game equipment not functioning properly and the absolute heat inside the facility. I will most likely never be back unless these items are fixed. This could be a great place but right now, I'd avoid it and pick something like a movie or mini-golf. Don't fall for the Insta trap we did......
Read moreEdit: Today we went back (had one free voucher, which was very nice of them) and updating my review to 5 stars. The new software is very seamless and provides a better picture, very clear. Everything works wonderfully and was a super fun time. I have done 3 different games now and would say outbreak origins was my favorite by far! Definitely recommend!
Old review: Weâve done VR here twice. The first time was super fun and we really enjoyed it and that was a five star experience. That was 2 years ago. We just went a week or so ago and had the worst experience. The game was constantly glitching, backpacks kept breaking, the guns would just stop working, game kept pausing, all to the point where we were constantly taken out of the gameplay and it wasnât even remotely fun. The goggles were also horribly scratched because half of us couldnât see. My first set was great but then my backpack broke and I couldnât see at all out of the new set. We were so disappointed because this was the first VR experience for half of our group. For 45$ a person thatâs a huge shame and we had 6 people there. They said they are waiting for an upgrade and have been experiencing technical difficulties because their version of the software isnât supported by the manufacturer anymore, so until they actually get that upgrade I would stay away because youâre just throwing your money away on a bad experience. I look forward to trying it again once they get better software that works. They offered us an hour of free arcade play but I would have preferred some of my money...
