2 star as most of school group had fun flying. However, location didn't make a great experience. We had 32 flyers paid for, & we were told by representative booking that we had 39 spots available to add on additional flyers day of. The representative notifies location of the spots available. When we arrived, the main manager seemed to be stressed/ frustrated. Whatever it was, she came off annoyed w/kids & families. I notified her we needed to pay 2 additional flyers. She seemed frustrated, went ahead & wrote their names on the schedule. The Moms tried to pay & were turned down. I asked about additional spots & seeming frustrated again allowed for 2 extra kids to fly but not the 1 Mom. She stated she could not add anyone else, I didn't fight it even though I was told we would have 39 spots not 33. We carried on with stem class (1 very long hour). Then separated into groups of 3. Our first flyers went, each kid had 2 flights 60 seconds. Before they could go into the flight area, each child was told to show wrist bands. The instructor for the first group was a very skinny guy who seemed to have trouble w/ the older boys (11 and up). The older boys ended up not really getting to fly as the instructor laid them on the net couldn't help with their legs etc. With only 60 seconds the boys did not really have a chance the first flight. One boy had anxiety & really just could have used the instructor taking more time to calm him & show him/talk to him about the body position or if a more experienced bigger guy could have helped. Maybe even a first test fly would have been great. Something that lasted a little longer than 60 seconds. This boy was crushed that he hasn't able to do his flights. All the kids had been looking forward to it. His confidence was wrecked & I spent time trying to cheer him up as he was crying. Group 2 flew & it was about the same as group 1. One girl was scared & couldn't do her flight. But she had a better flight instructor named Mark who seemed more knowledgeable & nice to the kids. He tried to work with them. But I do feel they should have offered the family a free fly if they want to come back another time. Then group 3 was up. As they were suiting up the boy in the first group was still crushed. I asked the next instructor if this boy could attempt one more flight with group 3. I said I could pay extra for him to go. After all I should of had the 39 spots anyways. He walked over to the manager & asked. Then came back & told me no that they were booked up. They could not allow 60 seconds for this crushed boy to attempt it one more time with Mark the clearly better instructor. Group 3 was ready but no one told the kids to show their wristbands this time. The manager was now overseeing them entering the flight area. When the kids went in, she started banging on the glass and yelling at them that no one showed their wristbands to her. It was shocking, it was not the kid's fault but her own as well as the staffs. Throughout the flights she would bang on the glass at the kids if they stood up from the bench. I understand they need to be seated, but why is there no speaker or another staff member with the kids waiting? Instead of 2 flights they gave this group 3. Then asked at the end if anyone else would like an additional flight. I was confused because they had not offered this to the other groups prior... & the kid that was crushed then became hopeful he could. I said "oh can this boy"? To which they stated no because he was not suited up. It was pretty heartbreaking as they could have very easily had him suit up earlier when I had asked. All we were asking for was 1 minute to which they gave way more time for group 3 anyways. It was in no way fair at all. There was no heart for the boy who was crushed. It was heartless. The manager also had a "service" dog at the main desk who was aggressively growling. Manager then yelled violently at the dog. Kids didn't get flight certificates & when asked to print I was treated like an annoyance Spoke up about managers rudness was told it was...
Read moreI had been driving by iFly Phoenix for several years wondering about the experience and had the occasion for Father's Day 2025, although we decided a bit too late as they were fully booked. Instead, I scheduled a visit with one of my adult daughters and booked a four-flight experience for each of us, somewhat guessing how much time would be good.
After booking the time, we received an e-mail to respond to questions as part of a release. We arrived 10-15 minutes prior to check-in, and then met our "instructor" host, Adam, who had a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We were given flight suits, ear plugs (it is loud) and a choices of open-face helmets with goggles or full-face with shields. I used the open-face and goggles option, while my daughter wearing eyeglasses used the full-face. Adam provided commentary about other guests in terms of hand signals and body positioning strategy to fly. This was helpful.
The flight deck is effectively a blender with safety nets at the bottom and top of the cylindrical vertical wind tunnel (tube). Spectators can be outside. Guests enter through a door that is sort of a foyer to the actual wind tunnel to help with transitioning from the waiting area into the wind tube. The instructor entered with us, and we waited our turns with other guests and their instructors. Each group seems to be assigned their own instructor throughout the visit.
The instructor actively helps with position and coaching to fly. There is also an operator that controls the wind speed and is visible from within the flight area and provides guidance on position, etc. The operator is also the area from which photos and video are taken (these are recorded for everyone but optional for purchase).
Each "flight" is about one minute, so with a four-flight experience, much of the time is spent getting ready, waiting for other guests to fly, and rotating from the wind tube to the waiting area. We were there for about 1.25 hours.
We found the experience fun and exciting. We added a "high flight" option, where the instructor assists having the guest fly higher; this was fun to do once but because the instructor is largely controlling the flight, the guest is more on a ride than flying; probably this is worth doing once but less about learning to sky dive. There was no sensation of motion sickness, although flying is very noisy. Our instructor also added to the experience, making it more enjoyable. We will likely...
Read moreI have to admit, I am scared of heights and so sky diving will not be an activity that I will dare to do, at least for now. Comes iFly Phoenix, I know there are many iFly facilities around the world, but I am reviewing specifically for this iFly in Phoenix. Although I hesitate to try this iFly at first but at the end, I decided to give it a try. The facility is a big one, it's modern and very welcoming. Moment we walked into the entrance, we were greeted by a friendly staff. There were a number of packages. We signed our waiver form and then walked up the stairs. In the wind tunnel (at least that's how I described it), there were already a few people flowing in the air, it looks fun. We went to the counter and told the staff the size of our shoes, the onesie outfit we had to wear, safety googles and helmet, yes, safety first. There were locker bin that we could put our valuables and then we were in a room watching safety video and the staff gave us a brief what to expect and the process of the experience. There were about 12 people for this session and we all set in a lineup outside the wind tunnel, one-by-one the guide inside the wind tunnel gave each of us about 1 minute time to flow in the air. We got 2 rounds of the experience so that we can get a hang of it. When we are rookies, we will have a guide there to assist us. But if you log in a number of hours at iFly, I believe you can go inside on your own. NOTE: Anyone who weights over 260 lbs (I believe) could not do the iFly, I guess the air just couldn't lift up a human body. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I highly recommend anyone to give it a try. Although it's nowhere near the sky diving jumping out of a plane but the iFly experience is good enough for me to get a taste of what it's like...
