Ethan Allen — Local services in Fredericksburg

We have been so happy working with Matthew Cole at Ethan Allen! Last year we were looking to make our front living room elegant but inviting so that our guests could feel comfortable as they congregated in our more formal sitting room. We have a grand piano which is our main focal point, and Matthew helped us design around it. We have a smoky velvet sofa with a Triptych Yacht print hanging above. Matthew helped us choose a Surveyor’s lamp to compliment the print and the Jocelyn glass side table to add glamour to our room. Our colors are dark blues and grays so he selected silk charcoal drapes and helped us with rug suggestions. He also picked out a bronze accent table that sits between our 2 sitting chairs. Matthew always shows me pieces that I wouldn’t have thought of. He is able to broaden my horizons and I have been 100% happy with everything we have purchased from Ethan Allen based on his suggestions and the quality of the pieces. Most recently, we purchased the Corin Rough Sawn Trestle table along with Cyra side chairs, which all arrived just in time for our annual New Year’s Eve party! Having been to our house, Matthew knew our colors and the layout. He picked out the fabric for our chairs and suggested the exquisite Brandt Buffet which will arrive soon. He is in the process of helping us choose a rug and accents to complete our dining room. We have been so pleased with the service of the sales associates, namely Matthew, Robin, and Holly, and thrilled with the look of our pieces. The delivery of our furniture was timely and the delivery personnel were very professional and handled our furniture with care. It was exciting to know that most of our pieces were made to order and that each piece can be passed down to our children. If you were to ask anyone three years ago if I was a “home” person, the resounding answer would be “NO!”. I loved my home, but it was neglected and needed some TLC.

Matt, from Ethan Allen, took it as a personal challenge to help me provide that TLC and put it into my house. He started at the beginning, building a design/vision for my space. He took into account several factors (existing furniture, budget, my hobbies), listened to me and then proceeded to create something fantastic.

Matt started me off with some of his favorite paint colors that were both soothing and made transitions to an adjoining room seamless. Then, he moved onto items that made my home feel warm and inviting. He selected a fun, funky desk for me; a bold, stunning entertainment console and adjoining bookcases; functional, yet beautiful chairs and rugs. Matt also chose key art pieces to adorn my walls, including wonderful Ethan Allen prints of Paris. Matt was able to create cohesive themes in the house that tell a story about me and are welcoming to guests.

A friend recently stopped by and sat in my newly designed sitting room. As we were talking and catching up, he mentioned the following “...It’s really good to see all the changes you’ve made to your home. It feels very cozy and it’s a pleasure to spend time in this environ. Good job!”.

But the credit does not reside with me, but with Matt. Matt was the catalyst that launched a revitalization of my home and my surroundings. So our initial experience was fabulous. Great customer service. Excellent selection of American made furniture. We made our purchases and would offer 5 stars. Then there was an issue with outer dining table. The finish was flaking off. Still 5 stars since stuff does happen. We called and left messages with Ethan Allen and nothing. After three attempts I kept calling until I got someone on the phone. Explained the situation, three weeks later I called back to inquire and the manager did nothing with our issue. Finally found someone competent (Robin). About 5-6 weeks later a replacement top was to be delivered. Received a call stating they were ten minutes out. An hour later, still waiting. Had to call back. Long story short, I wasted way too much of my time trying work with them (hours). This is not the same store as yesteryear. We will not spend out money here again which is a shame because they have nice stuff, but their customer service is terrible.

So an update... The replacement table was delivered and the finish was unacceptable. Call the store and sales was more eager to sell me stuff, have yet to hear back from customer service.
