Wow! What a surprisingly awful meal. My partner and I love Indian food but our favorite place (Himalayan Heritage, 10/10 please do yourself a favor and visit them instead) was closed today. She was having an extreme Korma craving so we decided to pull the trigger. HUGE mistake. We ordered garlic naan, vegetable samosa, shrimp korma, and Boti Kabab.
The good: Not much to be honest. The basmati rice was plentiful and not bad. They gave a lot and it came with the order.
The meh: vegetable samosas we're okay at best. Somewhat bland, and the texture was very dry, but compared to the rest of the food it was honestly pretty good. One of them was really completely flavorless and the other one was pretty tasty so we'll split the difference. Some weird seasoning in it that kind of tasted like licorice but unexpected flavors are kind of par for the course when eating food with a lot of aromatics.
The bad: oh man... The bad. The Korma was extremely salty, fairly bitter, and honestly tasted like it had gone bad. We unfortunately can't comment on the shrimp because we were genuinely afraid of getting food poisoning from eating it. Seriously, truly disgusting.
Boti Kabab: holy cow how do you mess up a chunk of seasoned meat?? And yet... The meat itself was incredibly dry. The flavor was at first fine (somewhat mediocre but by no means bad) but then there was sort of a rancid after taste. Surrounding the meat was an aesthetically pleasing platter of vegetables. Reader, looks can be deceiving. I felt bad that my partner's korma was so bad so I offered her some broccoli, one of her favorite vegetables. She barely bit into it before spitting it out and declaring the broccoli had turned bad as well.
All in all, we're faced with a dilemma: was the food actually spoiled or just terribly made? I leave that to you, dear...
Read moreThis is the single best place to eat in all of Fredericksburg. My wife and I moved to the area a year and a half ago but only discovered this place a few months ago. We wish we had discovered it earlier because it instantly became our favorite place in all Fredericksburg.
The food is absolutely AMAZING. They have a wide range of traditional Indian food options, all well priced and large portions. My wife is a vegetarian so we were worried about limited options, but were surprised when we learned each dish can be made with Paneer! A wonderful Indian cheese that carrier so much flavor in each bite. The Paneer Korma became her favorite dish but the Paneer Masala was also amazing. Personally, I tried the: Korma, Masala, Butter Chicken, Vindaloo, and the Goan costal curry. All were AMAZING!
But what truly sets this place apart from the rest is the Naan bread. Freshly made in house, generously portioned with each order, it is heavenly. The Bread Basket is our 100% recommendation as it comes with 3 pieces of regular, garlic, and stuffed naan! Our favorite combination by far is the garlic naan and butter chicken as the sauce is truly divine.
I 100% recommend this place to anyone visiting or staying in Fredericksburg. You will leave fully satisfied with leftovers that are even better...
Read moreThis is by far the saddest review I have ever had to write. I have been a HUGE Indian Guru supporter for almost 15 years. I have always loved there food, there staff and the atmosphere as a whole. But recently something changed. It was either sold to a new owner, changed management and/or DEFFENTLY changed cooks. Sometimes that's not a bad thing, but in this case it most defiantly is. I've ordered food twice, same order I have been getting for 15 years (i honestly don't switch things up, I know what I like and get that) I get Lamb Curry (tomato based not yogurt based) Guru Hot with the salad and dressing from the Buffet (rip to the Buffet). When I got my food on both occasions I was so disappointed. The recipe is totally different now, tatests sweet and not very hot just not very good for traditional Indian food. The Salad and dressing was totally different as well. Indian Guru Is my FAVORITE place to eat. I'm going to give it one more chance in hopes I'm not the only one to complain, but if not I will not be back unfortunally. I also frequent there sister store in Woodbridge Taste of Tandoori which was equally as good, have not tried it since the new changes not sure if they changed there recopies aswell. Will update this...
