I really enjoy this Bonchon. I've gone many times, mostly ordering takeout, but I have dined in as well. The chicken wings are one of my family's favorite menu items, both bone-in and boneless. The soy garlic sauce is my absolute favorite. It is not spicy, for those who may be sensitive to that! The atmosphere is pleasant, too. I love their food, and I'm really happy to have some good Asian food in town. We don't have many Asian restaurants, and they're really in demand. Korean and Japanese food are two of my favorite cuisines, so Bonchon is a perfect place to eat. Last time I went, I had made a takeout order online, but when I got there, it was not ready. The gentleman at the front was concerned and very apologetic as he found that their system was having issues and mine, as well as others, orders were not coming through. He was very polite and professional, and we worked together to get my order in. One of the items was not in stock, so (after he asked me) he subbed in another item which was actually more expensive, but he did that knowingly to help compensate for the trouble. We had a great conversation as I sat waiting, he offered me water/soda while I waited so I took the water. It really didn't bother me much because of how awesome they handled it. I think we have all had unpleasant customer service experiences, or even some where if this had been their situation, they would not have cared much or taken responsibility. But Bonchon didn't do that, they took care of business, were super polite, and they really just shined during. I mention it because, while I already loved this place, that experience left an impact on me. I want to praise them for the way they handled it and the way they treated the customers affected. (Note: it was not a system error they could fix; they genuinely did the best they could.) I have not had the chance to visit again yet, as I've moved, but I...
Read moreBonchon used to be my favorite restaurant, and I would have given them a solid 5/5 without hesitation. Their Korean fried chicken, street tacos, and steamed buns were always incredible, and their dishes were generally pretty good. However, their rice cakes (tteokbokki) have always been a letdown, tasting overwhelmingly like hot sauce with little else to offer. The main reason for my lower rating is that the quality has noticeably declined. On my most recent visit, the chicken in my buns was inedible—hard as a rock. The food hasn't been up to par for the last few times I've been, and they've even changed the format to a fast-casual setup where you have to order and pick up your food at the counter, which takes away from the experience. I'm only not giving a much lower rating because I still love their Korean fried chicken, but it’s really disappointing to see the place go downhill. For the price you’re paying, it’s just not...
Read moreFirst time trying Bonchon. I have heard about it, so I gave it a try. To get a sampling, I ordered the mixed chicken - wings and drums, plain and with soy garlic. I also got onion rings, coleslaw, and the fried shrimp. The servings are very large and could be three meals. The slaw was fresh and enjoyable. Everything else had a lot of breading. I didn't care for the greasy onion rings and didn't find them flavorful. The plain chicken was heavily breaded, but that didn't provide flavor. I expected some type of seasoning as is usual for chicken. The shrimp was tender inside, but again, the heavy breading just wasn't pleasant to me. The soy garlic chicken had nice flavor. A little crisp on the outside, tender inside. Overall, based on what I ordered, I am not a fan. Too greasy and overly covered without a lot of flavor. Also disappointing when considering the cost. That was my experience. Maybe it was what I selected, but I...
