Jos A. Bank — Local services in Fredericksburg

I’m a very tall man (6’5”) who often has to wear suits for work. I’ve used Jos A Bank in Fredericksburg exclusively for the last 13 years after a few disappointing goes with other brands due to quality and fit issues.

The store manager, Bill Peregoy, is outstanding. Since I’m not easy to fit he will move mountains to get me into a well fitted suit and shirt and always notifies me of upcoming sales and discounts. Our relationship has grown stronger over the years. We have such trust and confidence in his experience that he’s taken care of my son’s needs through high school and college along with my FIL who is even harder to fit than me since he’s short and stocky.

To have a suit that’s truly a personal fit, you need a tailor. The in-house tailor at the Fredericksburg store is Juanita Brown. This woman is a true master of her craft. I’ve seen her take “budget” suits I’ve bought on clearance at the store and make them look like they were hand crafted.

Over the last year my wife and I made some significant dietary changes at her father’s request so we don’t end up riding the diabetes train like him. As a result, I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. We dreaded the thought of having to shell out money for new suits. Thankfully Bill got me into some tailored shirts at an excellent price and Juanita took all my suits and put her master class skills to work. The alterations were done in very short order and now they fit and look like $10K+ custom made suits.

Folks, good suits do not come cheap and great tailors are hard to come by (tailors are a dying profession and top level ones like Juanita are irreplaceable). Don’t waste your time & money on department store suits. Go to the Fredericksburg Jos A Bank and spend the extra money and time on a quality suit that you’ll get years of use out of.

Bill and Juanita keep us coming back because of the prices and quality of Jos A Bank suits, and, most importantly, the true and enduring personal and professional relationship we’ve developed with both Bill and Juanita. Poor customer service. Went in on a saturday (Feb 14) trying to find a new suit for a job interview. The guy wasnt very friendly or helpful and talked down to me. I didnt like the way one of the coats fit after I slightly bent my elbow and slightly raised them, no extreme movements. Instead of finding me a better fit he keep saying "I hope you dont move like that in your suit", "I hope you done move like that in your suit" , he said it like 5 times in a row shaking his head, like I dont know how to wear a suit (which I do) and I should just accept the fit. No, I dont normaly move like that in suit, but that move simulates a move such as scratching your nose, and if I couldnt even slightly raise my elbows then I damn sure couldnt scrach my nose, so it obviously too tight and I need a better fit! He showed me two coats and that was it and left me. I said screw this and immediately went to Mens Wearhouse where I have bought suits in the past and always received great customer service. I walked into Mens Wearhouse and was immediately greeted and helped. Ron Brown at Mens Wearhouse was AMAZING! He walked me through everything and immediately noticed the same issue with the fit when I slightly raised my arms, the absolute second that I did that he said we need to get you a better fit, without me even saying a word! He walked me through everthing and genuinely looked like he cared how I look. Ron Brown at Mens Wearhouse was amazing! that guy a Jos A Bank, not so much. Prior to COVID, Bill and the Team were my go to for my formal / semi-formal wear for work and pleasure as the customer care here rivals tailors who make custom designer suits.

With no where to go and not much to do, it wasn’t until the need for a black suit on a Thursday evening that was needed in a weeks time, brought me back into the store. From the moment I walked in it was like I was there the day before. The store was busy but was immediately greeted and asked to please give them a moment. Didn’t take that long 😊

The jacket was secured first and needed no alterations. Matching pants in my size presented a problem as none were available in the store. Without flinching, Bill found/ordered the pants to the store with expedited delivery and by Monday, the call came that they arrived. When I got to the store, the pants were measured and needed hemming so I figured I would return when they were ready. I changed, handed back the pants, and went back to ask Bill when I should return to pick them up. That’s when Juanita appeared with the pants hemmed and pressed.

I can’t say how much I appreciate the level of care all at this store provides their customers. Even though demand outweighed supply, Bill was still able to provide great service at a better than fair or reasonable last minute expense.
