My issue is in regards to the Security Staff Conduct, not the hospital itself. However, the hospital does hire these employees, thus the one star review. I experienced extremely unhelpful and hostile treatment by a security officer at Riverview Regional Medical Center. I came to the hospital to visit my father, who had recently been admitted to a secure ward. When I approached the security desk to ask for help confirming I was in the right place, I was met with hostility rather than assistance. I was careful not to ask for any protected information, as I understand and respect HIPAA regulations. I was simply trying to verify that I was at the correct location. Unfortunately, instead of providing helpful guidance, the security officer responded abruptly, repeatedly telling me there was "no record" of my father and refusing to even acknowledge whether the ward I mentioned existed. As I tried to explain my situation, the officer became increasingly short and raised his voice, making the interaction feel adversarial instead of supportive. No clear instructions were offered on how I could provide the information needed to proceed, which left me feeling helpless and unwelcome. l later learned that a code was needed for access beyond that point (something that I had not had to do the prior time I visited the hospital from the same entrance) and something that could have been calmly explained when I walked up to his desk. I knew that I would need to tell staff the code at some point to enter into the ward, but he gave me no indication that I would need to also say it then to enter the hospital. As a result, I lost valuable time during my limited visit window, 2 hours, and the encounter was significantly distressing. His attitude was unnecessary and uncalled for. It escalated quickly, and it was very aggressive over just a few questions. I believe that security personnel in a healthcare setting should be trained to approach situations like these with patience, empathy, and clear communication, especially in sensitive healthcare environments. Visitors are often under significant emotional strain, and the way we are treated can have a lasting impact. Riverview RMC needs to seriously review its security training procedures to ensure that future interactions with the public are handled way better than this whenever someone comes in and needs some directions! I realize that these people want to pose like they're law enforcement, and authoritative attitudes go along with those personalities given what many of them deal with, but that is absolutely not how things should be handled as a go-to personality trait at a hospital for just a security guard. They're not the police, and we're not criminals.
Edit: Riverview, thank you for promptly having your patient advocate team reach out and speak with me today. I appreciate you taking this encounter seriously and working towards better policies and...
Read moreDuring our stay at this hospital the staff was very nice. Some of these floors need to be deeply cleaned. 7th Floor Orto floor nice. Get placed on the 4th floor . I couldn't believe my eyes how nasty . Not only that, mold was in the rooms I saw. I was offered for my 86 year old Aunt another room on the same floor because we asked to be moved they showed me another room just as nasty and also Mold. Yes, Mold was all in the room. A girl came in to so call clean the room. Was in there 10 minutes tops and said we'll. I will let them know I cleaned the room. Me and my sister looked at one another like what in the world. Not only did she not clean. She used the same rag for everything and then wiped the eating tray my aunt was supposed to use, and the room was horrible nasty. Not only that, hippa was broke in so many ways. My sister was going to walk around to see if the person we were waiting on to speak to about getting her off that floor was still coming. The nurse and the person over the cleaning of the room were talking about us in the hallway. Also, the nurse told him we were offered several options and refused . Which was untrue . He told her well that's all we could do and got on the elevator to leave, and my sister got on with him and got off on the floor to speak with him. That floor already heard and was talking about it. She spoke to him and told him the people you were talking about was her. His eyes got big. She asked sir if you could come look at this room, and he said he didn't need to. He knew how it looked, and he couldn't get approved for them to be cleaned properly. He did eventually come to the room and spoke to me. I showed him the room and mold all over the room. He said that's just dirt where the rooms are not clean. I asked him so you can 100 percent can tell me this is not Mold, he said No. I also asked if a health inspector came in, and they wouldn't find that to be mold. He said probably. The 4th floor needs to be shut down and throughly cleaned. If you have someone going there, please be aware of their...
Read moreI was admitted on 4/18/25. I had gone to the ER from my Dr's office for uncontrollable vomiting. After about 4 hours, they had my CT done and read, my xrays done and read and a lot of lab work done and read. I want to thank nurse Austin Burchfield, my nurse in the ER. He was so kind and considerate considering the condition I was in. When they sent me upstairs, I went to the 5th floor. At some point they find out that I had a severe abdominal infection. So everyone had to use universal precautions. Everyone was so nice and always asking if I needed anything. They really stepped up by helping me the way they did. The room was clean and they tried to make me as comfortable as possible. I don't remember much of the first night but the next day, I got Cody as my nurse. I don't know what his last name is but I really wanted to shout his name from the rooftops! He was amazing! So, so kind, interactive, capable (more than capable!) and considerate! He never made me feel like I was unconvincing him at all! He was prompt with meds which was a huge plus considering the meds I was on. He went way above and beyond to help me. I love my doc too. Her name was Dr.O Adebayo. She saw me every day and was very nice. I had a slight reaction to my meds and my speach became a a concern. I was basically out of it. Nathan, my nurse in training caught it and Dr. Adebayo addressed it to set me back on track. I just can't thank them all enough for the care they gave me because when though I tried not to pester them, I had to call for help quite often. I will definitely use RRMC again! I came home yesterday and wanted to post it then but I wasn't really up to it. One last thing, I was discharged Saturday afternoon and needed to go home on some strong antibiotics. We thought we were getting them from one pharmacy but ended up going to 5 different drug stores trying to find it. I had to call Cody AFTER discharge for help a few times and he helped us through it. So their care went past my hospital stay. I was so grateful! Again, thank you Cody, Nathan, Austin and...
