I hate to leave a less-than-stellar review for any local independent business (and don't think I ever have), but knowing that folks often drive a far distance or plan a day around visiting a consignment store when there are so few around, this may help someone.
The pros are that the items in this store are in very good condition and they acquire some beautiful pieces in pretty agreeable/varied styles.
The cons are that the prices range from a bit high to surprisingly high and the owners don't seem that interested in selling anything (or maybe they think they can guess who will buy??). I came in twice and both times they ignored me while they talked to someone about their dogs.
I brought it to their attention that the item I wanted to buy (that I had driven there specifically to buy after seeing it previously) was missing pieces that its label indicated went with it, and the woman briefly paused her conversation and told me that they were "probably back there somewhere" with no offer to help find them or adjust the price (which was high even for the complete piece which was chipped but downright silly for missing pieces).
It was unclear to me whether she expected me to go searching for the pieces (six small ramekins...I had no hope of finding them) or leave. She didn't seem to notice when I headed for the door. Disappointing because I was looking for a seder plate for passover that night, not an item easy to come by in Gainesville and we made do without.
I'd be sheepish to write this review knowing they will remember me and know I wrote it, but despite living in the neighborhood and planning to furnish an historic house this year, I'm confident I will not...
Read moreI don't usually leave reviews, but I feel inclined to this time around. I was very excited to check this place out, as I have been looking to purchase furniture and decor for my new place. I prefer buying second hand and vintage items, especially from local businesses. So I was excited to finally visit the shop when I was back home in town visiting family. My mother and I went together. The two women (assuming they were the owners, since they were older) could not bother to greet us or even look up in our direction from their computers. We were in the shop for nearly 30 minutes and not once were we asked if we could be assisted. I've never felt so unwelcomed in a business before, particularly because my mother was treated with the same disregard, which is offensive. Even though the shop has tons of great stuff, I will not be visiting again. Maybe the owners shouldn't be rude to customers just because they may not look like your...
Read moreLots of cool stuff but way overpriced and no flexibility. Came in to buy six bookcases and the owner said she never negotiates! She would rather see a sale walk out the door than knock 5% off the price of a wobbly little bookcase. Wonât be back.
In response to the comment by the owner- I specifically asked for contact information to purchase bookcases in bulk from the man who builds them. You refused to give me his number. You told me that you buy them from him for $20 each - I was not trying to ding the artist, but to negotiate your profit. I think your 100 percent markup is excessive- which is why I did not purchase from you. I eventually found him through another thrift store and purchased six bookcases from him, I think he is terrific! I understand, in retrospect, why you did not want to negotiate. You donât do enough sales to be able...
