With many Asian supermarkets popping up in Rockville and Gaithersburg areas, the competition is certainly getting fierce and any new stores have to be able to offer something better than the current ones in order to attract othersā loyal customers. Impressively the 99 Ranch Market has done so by raising the bar for international groceries standard. Similar to how Wegmans have changed the expectations of their customers to experience above and beyond better quality of meat and produce varieties, 99 Ranch Market also offers an eatery with dim sum and gourmet Chinese dumplings as well as bakery, bubble tea and dessert cafĆ© along with a separate dining area for their patrons. With meticulous arrangements of their produce section and beautiful display of live fish in the fresh seafood counter, the current Asian grocery establishments along Rockville Pike got to be nervous about maintaining similar standards. One caution would be to check the prices at this store before you choose to buy any delicious looking dishes on display at different eatery stores as some may be more expensive than you expect and others may want you to pay in cash instead credit. All in all this is a step up from the Sports Authority store it replaced and certainly makes Gaithersburgās 355 corridor an expansion of Asian and international retail business originally incubated in North Bethesda and Rockville locations. You can feel the change coming to the nearby Lake Forest Mall in the future. Best of all their lunch box deal is incredible. For $8.99 all you can stuff in the box with little rice/noodle, this is now the best lunch deal in town. Their noodle combo box with 2 or 3 Cantonese style roast pork, duck, chicken etc. is good for a family...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust visited this 99Ranch on Memorial Day weekend a month after grand opening. And it goes without saying that a food lover's market like this is partially made possible from the sweat and sacrifice made by our awesome US servicemen and servicewomen - thank you.
Since the shuttering of Meixin in Rockville and Asian market in Annandale, things were looking bleak .... but there is hope now. And for the brief and sweetest ephemeral moment, it felt like I was eating & shopping in the laid-back relaxing atmosphere of Asian food marts in California. Ok, the wonderful soul-filling food in the numerous eateries and TenRen bubble tea cafe (all under one roof) is just unfounded anywhere else. Finding whole roast duck at $21 is just fantastic. And c'mon, how many seafood departments do you know do whole fish fry [take a look a the uploaded pic]. I'm too ecstatic so here are other storied finds: fresh pig jowl (yes, I said fresh not frozen, see pic), Taiwanese bakery, boiled salted peanuts (yeah, it's not just a Southern thing), congee, dimsum, taro cake rolls (hard to find anywhere else, see pic), live striped bass, on choy, snow pea tips, silk chicken, pearl jelly sweet bean popsicles (w/ expire date that's much longer than next week; see pic), etc. There is just too much.... ah man, I just gained two happy lbs recalling all this food.
99Ranch, hope to see more new locations in Northern VA area - ... š hopefully ... š„ south of Potomac river, š« like maybe Centreville, ... šGrandmart, Lotte, SuperH are great but it's just...
Ā Ā Ā Read more1 big problem that really upset me and ruined my experience at this store. Other than that, the selection here is fun and interesting, and the cashier at the store check out was very nice! But..
The employees who work at the hot pot are super rude and it felt like they really didnt want to take my order. They spoke a different language, Mandarin maybe? But they could also speak basic english. I went to order and a chinese woman cut in front of me super obviously and the cashier acted like i didnt exist and took her order.
I asked for chicken and the cashier woman rolled her eyes and said they dont have that. It honestly felt like she didnt want to serve me because I'm not asian??? They got my entire order wrong even though I pointed to the exact items I wanted on a menu right in front of her?
Literally the only thing she got right about my order was the damn rice. And it was almost 20$. Then I decided to try it even though it was what I ordered and the WHOLE thing tasted like burnt plastic and collagen.
And the whole time I watched her take new orders and have their food out several minutes before mine when they ordered the same thing as me. Took 25 mins to get my soup out, i spent less time shopping across the entire store than i did just waiting for a...
