This mall stands nearly empty, a testament of the bygone years of brick and mortar stores. Display windows shrouded in paper, darken storefronts reflecting their emptiness and still others clinging to retail life with limited hours and days. The mall’s foot traffic is mostly silver hair walkers and little actual shoppers. Belk and Planet Fitness are the two main anchors with about a dozen other shops, 3 places of worship, 1 deli and a juice bar in the food court, two art studios (one closed with limited hours) and two large consignment shops. One is temporarily closed due to lack of staffing. My rating is based on the stores I visited. First, was Rocco’s Italian Deli offering hoagies, salads, snacks and drinks. Our 12” Godfather came nicely piled with deli fresh turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce and chipotle Mayo on a toasted hoagie. A side of chips come with it. Fresh quality, good quantity and friendly service. Second, was K-Bar Farm Homestead Junction, with a wide array of jams and butters, salsas, BBQ sauces, homemade fudge and K-Bar Farm Brand Elderberry syrup. Along with that, a plethora of arts and crafts, candles and soaps, CBD products, unique tees and hats, coffee cups and tumblers and farmhouse home décor. Third, was Captain Murrell’s antiques, uniques and entertainment consignment shop. The name says it all, offering everything from Elvis Presley statues to vintage art, jukebox to Pinball machine, electric to acoustic guitars, furniture to vinyl records. One of a kind shop with an eclectic collection of things of the past. They also have an adjoining store filled with drums. The overall mall is quiet, clean with...

A favorite haunt of mine. No bookstores, as I was growing. Public Library was our bookstore, after school or Saturday, IF you did not have a ball game. First things... Books A Million a welcome stop from SUB TROPICAL HEAT OF 90+ YA. Looking for a book I had suggested for a young friend. Not busy, I approached his desk. Hello said I with my winning smile. Nothing, no hi, hello, may I help you, not even a WHATCH WANT. NO. OK I mumbled to myself. My smile was gone, looking straight into the uncaring eyes. ( J.D. SALINGER, CATCHER IN THE RYE) I followed, "maybe he's a robot"? I pondered. The young man led me to my quest. He left without a sound. Let's all look around. Must be a MILLION books at your service. Books on just about all you could want. There are reading areas with comfortable chairs. A well stocked MAGAZINE section, a coffee shop in the buliding. Great place to get lost with the likes of C. Dickens, J.D. SALINGER, J. Stinbeck, C. Shultz, Tiny Tim. many more to transport you to the world. " getting lost in a book." Most readers will know this special place. A world to ponder, wonder, enjoy. I must mention the cry for good, relilble help in our area has been long coming. Poor help abounds I see it in all restaurants, shopping centers, book stores. I have been in Books A Million many times, always a welcome and a smile. My unfriendly guy visit was the exception. A great place to hangout, you might just learn a lot. 😳...
Read moreUnfortunately Inlet square mall can barely be called a mall anymore. When I was younger it was filled with almost every store you can find at the coastal grand mall. Now it's just a gym, a children's play center and a Belks. I'm sad to see it fade away, for a while the had converted the old movie theater and arcade into a pool hall/arcade/bar that you could bring the whole family to. After they took that out it's just seems sad to go there. My hope is that they will find a business that can occupy a large portion of the building and turn it into something that people can enjoy... but for now, it's a 2 star location in my book, mainly because it's just so depressing...
