I recently moved into the area and being a foodie I have been on the journey to nail down places for where “I” would go for a great steak, or pizza, or wings, and of course a delicious burger. I noticed a number of places have a “smash” burger on their menu, so I’ve found myself trying them immediately when in the burger mood (keep in mind, I’m usually a traditional burger type of guy). A few weeks ago I was in that “need a burger mood” so we went to Hippie Hen. Prior to moving I had done my research on places within a square mile of where I was moving to and Hippie Hen was already on my list. Since then I have been there three times between October and Jan and each time it’s a pleasant and delicious experience. We are always greeted quickly and have been waited on by Kristine each time who is an absolute joy. She’s super friendly and fun, and always kicks back to chat with you and genuinely meets you and everyone at the table. Highly suggest meeting her even if she doesn’t wait on you. In any event, I truly enjoyed looking over their burger selection and I chose “The Big Smack” as I’m a fan of when places have their own rendition of a Big Mac. All burgers come with two patties, but I love it when a place offers a third…so I of course took the option. The burger was absolutely delicious. Prior to this I had their ghost wings and polished that plate off. I didn’t think I’d have it in me to take the burger and cole slaw down, but I had zero issues doing it. It tasted great and left me with a feeling of wanting another. Kristine and I joked on whether or not I’d be able to finish it and we were both surprised when I did. The story doesn’t end there though, becuase I did order another. This time I went with their Classic Bacon Double and also added the third patty. Once again, I finished that burger completely. It truly was delicious and the experience overall made it that more fun. After that, Kristine shared all the weekly specials with us which included rib days, wing days, and yes burger days where it’s $3 off any of their burgers…so I immediately said “that’s an easy third patty free! lol”. A few weeks after I returned and introduced my parents to Hippie Hen. My father enjoyed the Big Smack as well, I tried the Mother Cluckin Wrap, and my mom had the Asian Persuasion salad. Everything was delicious. The salad was large enough that my mom feared not being able to finish it. Kristine and I joked that I would be able to clear anything on the table if needed, lol. I really enjoy this place and encourage folks to pop in. You can also get a punch card for a free burger, NICE. The prices are very reasonable, there’s good food, and great friendly service. Thanks guys. You know...
Read moreFirst let me state for the record that I never give a restaurant review UNLESS it is in a positive manner. I have had experience in the hospitality industry. Therefore, I realize people post frivolous and ruthless reviews without true merit. This place is an exception to my rule. Moving forward, we were immediately seated with our waiter who brought two waters to the table. He came back just as soon to ask us if we were ready to order while my husband was taking a business call and could clearly see he was on a call. I asked for a few and he basically stormed off. This did not bother me as much as what I am about to say next. We finally placed our order and Ryan seemed so agitated to even be bothered with his patrons. THEN, I watched him walk away in the dining area while picking his nose and proceeded to grab food from the pickup line in the kitchen. Clear view. He never washed his hands and delivered said food to another table! I was slowly losing it as I watched Ryan effortlessly deliver this food. Maybe he forgot to wash his hands? No. He left the table and repeated his toddler like behavior by picking his nose AGAIN and wiping his deposit on his food apron!! I’m speechless. We received our food and it was just terrible. Grease soaked fries and extremely salty chicken. Not edible. However, my water was perfect. We received our bill and presented our card for payment. Again, Ryan proved at this point that he clearly should not be dealing with the public. He yanked the card reader from my husbands hands and handed his card back to him so rudely. He clearly has no interpersonal skills. He clearly could not even work on a Honey Badger Farm. Hippie Hen House, your restaurant has circled the proverbial drain. I tried to call to inform a manager or owner of our experience but they do not have a phone number. I would give 0/5 if I had the...
Read moreWe went in expecting to sit down, but after waiting at the front for someone to see us for 10 minutes, we decided to order to go. After trying to give the order to the manager, he directed us to order at the bar, oddly enough. After sitting, I thought to have a beer while we waited for the order. The bar tender didn't acknowledge us for 15 minutes and after I asked for the beer on my own accord, she said I couldn't because I made a to-go order (like, what?). We both ordered the Crisfield Cream Crab & Corn Chowder ($8) and an appetizer, "Crispy Brussel Sprouts" ($10) with Craisins and Onion Crisps. There were no craisins and the onion crisps were just broken up onion potato chips rather than being freshly made. The Sprouts were not safely prepared by being par-boiled then dried because they were overly bitter, it was not even edible. It was also bitter because the Balsamic reduction was extremely burnt, probably because the chef forgot about it as it was boiling to hell and back on the stove top. The Sprouts were not even cut properly. They were trimmed to include the root, so they weren't even Sprouts. It was decimated to the point it was just burnt leaves. It was soggy, poorly-made, and prepared unsafely. That told me the place was poorly run. I know why no locals go there, as they made the interior look like an Applebee's or a chain sports bar instead of a homegrown southern establishment. There was no effort to make the atmosphere unique or welcoming. They were not busy in the least, yet the staff looked rushed and stressed. The soup was alright but was broken. So it was basically a poorly made and broken emulsion with a little bit of crab (looked like imitation). Look at the pictures of the Sprouts which was an extreme displeasure and tell me if you think it...
