This place will try to scam you, beware. I visited this liquor store on Easter Sunday and walked in around 4 p.m., my boyfriend and I purchased merely five items: a 1-liter water bottle, two cans of soda, a bag of chips, and a tall can of beer.
The guy who was working the register was nice, but something seemed off from the jump. When he saw our can of beer, he looked up at us, stared for a little too long and then proceeded to ask: "you guys are 21 right?" like helloo, maybe ask for ID if you're unsure, California State Law, pal. Red flag number one. After that, everything went downhill...QUICK. If you're the owner of this establishment, you will definitely want to read the rest. If you do not enjoy being scammed, you will also want to continue reading.
I noticed the register had a scanner, yet the cashier was manually typing everything into the register instead of simply scanning our items. When he was finished typing, our total came out to $25 and some change. Even then, I thought the price was pretty steep considering what we got, but we were willing to pay. My boyfriend and I began pulling out cash and just when I was about to hand him our cash, the total had suddenly jumped to $37. THIRTY SEVEN DOLLARS for water, two cans of soda, chips, and beer. I knew that had to be wrong, so I asked the cashier to give me the individual price of each item. The man began stuttering, and then proceeded to scan our five items with his super mega convenient scanner.
After ringing us up again the total had suddenly dropped to $14 and some change. Pocketing 1-2 pennies after a transaction is one thing, however there's a different type of sketchy when you manipulate a store's prices for your own benefit. I presume that when he realized we were paying in cash, he figured it was time to "pocket" the difference. I truly hope the man working the register that day, was not the owner, because what a sad and pathetic way to run a business. Whoever he was, I hope he has the day...
