I never post reviews and I've been a strong supporter of your local store in Traverse City, Michigan. I am a person who works hard, comes to shop and then goes home. I live a simple life and Meijer has always allowed me to shop with convenience and efficiency. I am aware the Traverse City location is being remodeled so everything has been relocated. Upon shopping there, I see that this is frustrating for people but I have still decided to support you. However, today something happened that severely irritated me. While I was checking out with one of your cashiers, another employee came out of the blue and asked - "Are you Russian or Ukrainian?" In my mind I wondered WHAT THE HELL? I had not had any other prior statements/conversation with this employee. I was by myself. I hadn't spoken yet and she claimed that I looked like a guy that she had an issue with before. She referenced a man she spoke with “trying to explain M-Perks” and laughed condescendingly about it. She was clearly mistaking me for another man who she had trouble communicating with prior and it was solely based on my looks. Even if I was the guy (who she referenced), isn’t that her job? To describe and sell features from Meijer? However, I felt extremely uncomfortable, judged and mocked. I had no idea how to respond. It was the weirdest experience and, needless to say, a daunting and annoying checkout. I am unsure of who the other gentleman was or what she was trying to accomplish by telling me/comparing me to the irrelevant story but it felt exactly like profiling to me and I am frustrated. Come to find out, I believe she was the supervisor or the manager because she was just spectating, not actively involved in the check out, just watching the staff. Her name is Sherryl or Cherri or something close. I am not trying to endanger her position, but maybe a little human resource involvement may be necessary, especially because she is in a management position. I felt uncomfortable, judged and unwelcomed. I felt that this was something a prominent business in my community needed to...
Read moreI was in the Traverse City Meijer today. I witnessed (2) people without masks talking to one another in the fresh produce section. I went about doing the rest of my shopping avoiding that area hoping they would be done talking briefly but when I returned about 15/20 mins later they were still there carrying on. I wasn’t able to go down the isle or really felt comfortable going into the whole section they occupied because I didn’t want to risk exposure. I didn’t want to purchase any of the produce from that area after the extended exposed to these (2) people not wearing masks. So you lost sales so these people could have a social hour in your store without masks contaminating the produce for a lot of people. I notified staff of the people not wearing masks thinking they would insist they wear a mask if they would like to continue shopping in the store (they are provided for free at the entry well done there) or they could also take advantage of the curbside and delivery options if they don’t want to wear a mask. I was informed the staff cannot do anything? This is a public safety issue. You sell food. In my years of food service and handling this is astounding and unacceptable that this is even in question. People aren’t even allowed inside most places but you can’t ask people to leave if they aren’t wearing a mask? People have to wear a shirt. They have to wear shoes..food service employees have to wear gloves. It isn’t about personal freedom but public safety. Why isn’t my food I buy at your grocery store treated with safety standards? If this is how Meijer deals with a pandemic in the front of house I’m scared to see the back of house operations. I am concerned about how you treat the rest of your food safety measures. I think I might start shopping at Tom’s or Olsen’s...
Read moreI had to share my experience from this place in hopes that someone from management will see it and hopefully correct the issue. For one - I was checking out with my kiddo and some lady just comes over and scans stuff I had under my cart. I understood that. Right after that lady walked away, another one came over and said she was going to do the same thing again and I asked her not to because it was already scanned. The lady had an attitude and you could see it all over her face that she really didn’t want to be there. I was fully capable of bagging my own groceries and she said she’d do it and I asked her not to. Well, she did anyway. She packed my bread in bags with cans and my cake got smushed because she put heavy stuff on top. To top all of that off, I asked to sign up for their rewards and the lady at the register said it would take too long to do right then and there and suggested I do it online. I was super displeased with the customer service of this store. This is my local Meijer. I am disappointed to the point where I won’t return to this location because of the service I received today. My husband went over to return something that got ring out through our initial transaction and also asked customer service about signing up for their rewards because we don’t want the app on our phones, and they also said the same thing - to sign up online. This is a huge issue. There are elderly and disabled people that won’t be able to join the rewards program all because “it would take too long to do in store.” Pitiful customer service. Do better Meijer! The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because of product availability. They had my sons medicine so the pharmacist...
