WARNING!!!!!! Be caution!!!!!!! THESE GUYS ARE INDEED CROOKS! I HAVE WITNESSED THEM RIPPING OFF AN OLD MAN WHO BROUGHT IN LOTS OF VERY RARE 1938 to EARLY 1940s SUPERMAN COMICS. SERIOUSLY AND THEY HAVE AN INVESTOR RUNNING THIS PLACE AS WELL. Do not trust these men, they will rip you off and bluff you on the value.
I brought in a beautiful 9.4 CGC comic book that's worth over hundreds of dollars, and the owner wanted to give me $25.00 flat. They rob customers! Indeed criminal individuals in Traverse City. Poor old man got cleaned out and those guys don’t seem to have any decency and courtesy for elderly people. Greed is no question asked. I will file better business bureau. FOLKS, DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY! The old man seriously had some very rare Superman comics in beautiful condition, plus others that were in the early 1940s. That was unacceptable and I will never forget those moments from their front counter. The Diamonds comic book distributor will be informed of this inappropriate behavior as a comic book dealer. This is how they make their money from customers, folks. Very dishonest men. It’s very upsetting because the man was robbed in a heartbeat. These guys do turn around and sell rare comics on eBay that were ripped off. You just lost your customer, Pal. Shame on you boys, and I hope your wife knows how you bring in money. May GOD be with you and don't forget the judgment day either. Respect our elderly people fruitfully. Again, folks, don't take this lightly because this is all true under...
Read moreIn my head, I keep thinking Top Comics isn’t a big store compared to others but in reality it matches all of them and just skips out on having twice the space that’s filled with board games or some other non-comic interest. It’s a great comic book store and I can say every space is filled with intention & curation. I think I was a little dismissive my first visit either just checking it out at a glance or looking for something already niche.
I work part time at a store in Grand Rapids now, I frequent other stores in my area and have been to a good one in Lansing this past week (really got the fever this year). All that to be said, upon returning here and really going through both sets of bins, I can say it’s some of the best concentrated selection found at one place. The ratio of good titles/issues coming out of the long boxes were crazy to me and don’t get me stared about the key issues in the display counters.
Found a couple lower grade keys I’ve been eyeing at a great value and the owner went beyond to accommodate me and my transactions. It’s not like I’m a regular but I got the experience of one and I can tell that’s how he treats everyone.
Very happy pretty much the only real option for a comic shop up here (in the TC area) is this one. If you have comic interest, you should check this place out with a real lookie-loo they deserve. I had a great time here and wanted to share my experience with others;...
Read moreOverall, the little time I spent in Top Comics was awesome! I am originally from TC, but moved for school, and have gotten very into comics while pursuing my studies. With that, this last time I visited I was able to convince my dad to come with me.
This ended up being a great idea, because not only did I find what I was looking for and MUCH more, but my dad was able to find issue #10 of the Invaders (back from the 70's) where he actually got a newsletter published in it! This was super cool to see, along with his excitement over finding it.
For some people, that could be seen as nothing big. But for me, I was able to see the wonder and excitement in his eyes that sort of reminded me why we all love comics in the first place. Thank you to Top Comics for giving me that experience! Literally the only complaint I have is that I didn't have enough time and money for all of the cool things in there!
Also, the two dogs behind the counter were super friendly and made the experience even more memorable than it already was,...
