Being known as Mr. Retro, I can't help but be "biased" lol. But this is my favorite place in Traverse City for video games and consoles. Not only that but it is the only retro related place in all of Traverse City. Best part is they are all friendly and they don't try to take advantage of being the only retro place by making everything crazy expensive either. Reasonable, and I even got to have a great discussion over The Legend Of Dragoon and how it was considered to be the best PS1 game ever made and so on and so forth. Lots of people I can truly converse with about a topic I love. Retro consoles and games. That said, I got Pokemon Silver version and a Link Cable so I am now able to battle my gal in traditional battles through our Gameboy Advance SP's. I will always mention this place to any gamer that I know and especially to those who are retro people like me. You won't find a better atmosphere and environment for gaming or for what it's worth most places in general. It's like a secondary unofficial home in a sense. I just feel good and welcomed while in there.

I called and asked about an xbox series x with disc and they said they had it for 475 used so I told them I'd be right there. Once I got there less than a half hour after I called they already sold it. The guy says to me "hope youre not looking to buy that" as i walked up to the counter thinking they set it aside for me and I explained how I just called for it and he said they're selling it to someone else. So we went to gamestop immediately to get one instead ended up spending 475 as well and then bought Space Marine 2 and Quidditch. Plus you get the warranty on everything if you want unlike second hand. Seems like second hand games isn't about saving you money anymore or good service. Very sad experience from a store I've always gone too and the prices are now the same as everywhere else not like they used to be.

I really appreciate when I can talk to the people who work at these places because often times more than not the workers in card shops are odd and keep to themselves, at least in my experience most of the time. These guys were abive and beyond friendly and chatted with us for a while. Their card prices are lower than average which is nice. They also ship, so if your not from the area, like me, then you'll love that option! I would like to see more pokemon boxes or tins or single packs. That was a little lack luster. I still walked away with cool stuff and would definitely buy from them again.

It's a pretty nice store. I had kind of a rough first couple times since they moved locations but today I was able to have a good experience with Rachel and Ruby. 2 very kind employees. They pay significantly more in store credit than competition. Though I wish they had a higher cash limit than just $500. On busier days it goes fast. There is no limit for store credit however. Also keep in mind that there is a single case of high value items that can only be paid for with 50/50 store credit/cash or card. Those are usually high value items that are traded in for cash and allegedly people were trading in lots of small things to scalp PS5s so that's why they had to do it. I understand this isn't a pawn shop or some chain store or large cooperation like GameStop or DKOldies but I think a cash limit of around $2000 each day or limit $100 per person per month in cash with unlimited store credit would be a little more reasonable. I also wish they could get more in the line with repairs. There are plenty of consoles out there that only need basic repairs like replacing capacitors or replacing thermal paste. And there are a few systems they don't want to take due to fear of failures like the original model Xbox 360 (Though the Jasper and Tonasket motherboard revisions usually don't have the red ring issue), the original model PS3 (Though if the serial number starts with CECHL01 and up it shouldn't have the yellow light problem) and the original model Xbox One occasionally. (I kinda feel bad mentioning that) However, I do appreciate this mom and pop shop keeping what they can out of the e Waste stream and keeping it in circulation. Prices aren't bad either, Most of the time if you do the math and base the game you're looking at. Before you think it's overpriced like some people think (including myself before I did the math) base the price on the average sold price on eBay for that game. Add the average shipping cost and consider their usual buy 2, get the third pre-owned game free offer and you'll find out it's roughly the same as eBay, give or take a few bucks or sometimes even less. Overall it's a great store and they do care about their customers. But I wish they had more employees. It took 45 minutes for me to trade in a PS2 and about a dozen games before I was able to get my store credit. I also wish they would have a sign on the door unless I missed it that states when they have reached their cash limit for the day or I wish an employee would tell the customer before they go through...

My son came in to sell his pokemon cards, and while we weren't expecting a ton of money, he was offered $7 for I'm cash or $15 store credit for his binder, card sleeves and about 400 cards (lots that were just energy/ trainers). The binder and sleeves the cards were in cost more than that alone.

I really felt like they were trying to take advantage of a young, naive, kid. If I hadn't have been there to stop the "deal" my kid would have done the deal without realizing how little value he was getting.

I know pokemon cards have a huge range of value, and most of them are worth very little, but perhaps with kids/teens an explanation of value would be helpful- and offering more for the binder and sleeves if the kid is willing to trade them in. As a parent who has spend hundreds on worthless cards, it was shocking to have nothing offered for the brand new sleeves we purchased for him to put the cards in to bring them to GT games.

My boys love the store for the merchandise, but each time we go in the people who work there are dismissive and unwelcoming (to their credit, they always seem busy- so perhaps that's why).

I appreciate the owner response and being willing to hear...

Offers in store credit but only lets u use 50% of it on a item and u have to pay the rest in cash, an absolute slap in the face to trading in games. Avoid this store and their slimy business practices they're actively scamming you especially when they're getting the value of what u brought in on top of actual cash.

The people that run this place should be ashamed of themselves and their blatant theft of it's customers would rate it half a star if I could.

Edit: The customer did not disrespect you and on top of that claiming ur giving away an OLED switch for free when he's giving you 2 consoles AND $80 on top of that. No man ur running a scam and honestly are just a terrible person for lying on a review and slandering him, the idea that you are the owner but treat your customers with such blatant disrespect just shows people SHOULD shop somewhere else considering they'd be treated much much better for trading in at least $240 worth of consoles and $80 on top of that, in fact there is a game store that is close that DOES offer better.

Tdlr: Bad business practices and a hot...
