I took my mother-In-Law's 4 month old PC to be worked on because it would not start up. I was told they would get it done in a few hours.
The computer spent 3 hours there and then the Technician (Ryan) let me know it was about done. I went to get it. I was told they installed the Xubuntu system again and all was well. They had installed it originally three months back when the computer was brand new.
I went home and started it. It did start, but it was loaded with strange data that made the start-up long and frustrating, and the wifi did not work (It had not ever been a problem before)!
I called Ryan and spent over an hour with him using a remote program to work some more on the computer. He could not get the wifi to work. I was told that perhaps I needed to switch to Windows 7 and purchase a $150.00 License from them if I wanted it to work correctly. This flabbergasted me, since I was told it was working correctly when I picked it up and paid for it. I called back 5 minutes later, but Ryan had left for the weekend.
My Mother-In-Law goes stir crazy without her computer, so I decided to try to download another version of Ubuntu to try to get it working for her. 3 Hours later, after training myself in downloading and burning a DVD from the Ubuntu site, I was done and had installed this on her computer. It worked perfectly, so I took it to her house and got her back online.
I called Ryan today to request a refund, since I had been told that my computer was done and back in good working condition, when in fact it was not. I was told that I did not give them a chance to fix the issue. This was not true, since I had called and had Ryan take over my computer remotely and he had told me he could not fix it... and then suggested that I needed to purchase Windows 7 to solve the issue.
It is impossible for me to believe that Ryan and his boss (The owner) can not understand that they should not charge for work not done. I wanted the computer fixed. They did not fix it, and now complain I did not give them the opportunity to do so. They also indicated that they would have fixed it if I had bought it there.
Perhaps that should be there new slogan, "We will fix it if you bought it here...otherwise, maybe not!"
I will see if my credit card company agrees with me (That I should not be charged for services not rendered), and tell everyone I know about thei poor business practices...
Read moreI called Microlynx on Dec 10, 2021, and asked if they could work with an iPad that was "locked and disabled". I chose the store because I had worked with them before and because it is located in my neighborhood. The person on the telephone stated they could certainly fix my issue and I took my iPad to them that same day. The man stated he "had never seen this before" and asked to keep my iPad. He said he would call me before the end of the day. He did not and when I called him, he said "it's still locked, but I will call you for sure on Monday" (Dec 13, 2021). He did not. I called on Dec14, 2021, and was told the iPad "is fried" and I need to replace it. I picked the iPad up on Dec 15, 2021, and was handed a bill for $76.16. The bill stated "tried 12 systems and 4 methods to reset without success". Friends urged me to take my iPad to the Apple store in Tacoma. I did and my iPad was fixed within 15 minutes free of charge. -- I am obviously very disappointed with the service I received from Microlynx. Christel Scouller
Addendum to my above review: The manager of the Gig Harbor Mycrolynx shop contacted me and provided me with his explanation of how the poor service provided to me in December 2021 could have happened. He offered to return the money they had charged me. I accepted that offer and my money was returned. Thank you. ...
Read moreI just left my favorite computer place here in Gig Harbor-Microlynx. I have been going to Microlynx for over 30 years. Roy Parkison built our very first computer way back then. It is a huge relief to have someone that you can rely on for computer work. I am not a technological person and the great guys at Microlynx are the most patient people when I come in trying to describe just what is going on as I have the computer panic look on my face. Roy can always bring a smile to my face. Their service is excellent and timely. I was there today because in the last update on my Mac the trackpad options was moved and somehow the ability to highlight things was turned off-very frustrating for me. I tried to fix it myself and of course I had to call the shop. I took my Mac in and Keith and Roy knew exactly what had happened and they fixed it within 5 minutes. We normally take our computers in for yearly maintenance but when there is a computer emergency they are wonderful for taking care of my Mac especially in a timely manner. I would highly recommend them (and have done...
