The bristlenose pleco I purchased a week ago died within two days. After a flurry of testing, we couldn't find any issues with our aquarium. A few days after the pleco died, our two goldfish (the only other fish in our tank) began exhibiting white spots and their fins and tails began looking kind of tattered, which has gotten worse every day. After a ton of reading, it seems they have the ich parasite, which may have also weakened their immune system, causing fin rot.
Now that we've identified the problem and narrowed the cause down to the only new introductions to the tank being the pleco and a few snails(all purchased at this store), we're treating it. I also thought it would be a good idea to call the store and let them know what's happened so they can monitor their fish and hopefully this won't happen again. The person on the phone asked me a few questions, and each time I began to answer, they interrupted me repeatedly and spent half the conversation talking over me. It ended with them saying something along the lines of "well all I can tell you is all our fish are guaranteed healthy at point of sale." Clearly, that isn't the case. I didn't ask for or want anything, I was just hoping to prevent this from happening again.
So, thanks for the diseased fish, the disrespect, and the lack of mask policy enforcement on top of all of it.
Shoutout to the older gentleman that WAS wearing a mask and being super helpful when I went back to purchase more aquarium tests. I hope they appreciate you.
Attached are photos of the goldfish. One was taken the day the pleco was introduced to the tank, one was taken today. The water discoloration in today's picture is from the ich...
Read moreYou know im all about supporting tf out of smaller non-corporate pet stores but the fact that the small animal habitats looked like a secondary thought really got under my skin a bit. Maybe im being presumptuous and the cages were being cleaned, but none of them had anything in the tanks at all except a water bottle and like 2 of the hamster cages had wheels. They all really should at least have a little plastic house or hidey hole and a wheel to run on. They were all balled up in corners of the tanks, which is usually a bad sign. I also noticed that none of the reptiles they had, had UVB lighting, which is important for all reptiles even when it isnt âmandatoryâ. The heat lamps were also a bit small for the tank size. These arent really nitpicky criticisms âŠ
i hold non corporate pet stores to a higher standard when it comes to animal care because the employees dont really have any red tape keeping them from properly caring for the animals.
Also, for some reason Google said that they were a reptile shop, and as the name implies its more of a fish shop. (Not their fault, google needs to get a clue. Their suggestions are always wrong.) so if youre looking for fish stuff this is probably a great place to go. They have reptile stuff just not a lot.
Ive also noticed that the owner is pretty rude to people who give negative reviews, so im sure ill get an eye roll when they see this, but even though youre a temporary spot for animals, you can at least give them stuff in their tanks. I understand the small tank size but it just...
Read morei went here one time and i regret it SO BADLY. i have 4 fish tanks. iâm an avid fish lover and i know how to properly care for fish. i typically buy everything from aquatics unlimited, but i was suggested this place because of the different stock options. i ended up buying 4 fish that day, and put them all in one of my tanks (thank god they went in the same one). this was a couple months ago. aside from the lady who chopped off a julii coryâs fin while trying to catch one because she was so bad at it, it gets worse from there because after adding in those 4 fish, i have since lost all 4 fish plus 4 others and the last 6 are still battling multiple diseases. my fish were all completely healthy and thriving in perfect water conditions and then as soon as i put the marineland fish in my tank, they began to drop like flies. i had to completely strip down the tank to stop the horrible ich infection, and i thought it was under control until one of my other cories became extremely enlarged and covered in bacterial cysts, and the entire tank is battling carmallanus worms. the people at marineland are unknowledgeable about fish care, the fish are full of bacteria and disease, and youâd truly be better off going to aquatics unlimited rather than risking this same thing happening to you- the rest of my tanks are thriving, but the one that was infested by marineland waters? forget about it....
