Food here is actually good. Prices are comparable to other sushi restaurants around here and they have an impressive list of specialty maki with variety and clever ingredients. Whenever I eat at the restaurant the service is always adequate to great. But for some reason whenever I get takeout (which I used to get every week or two) I always feel like I'm an annoyance to them even though I always tip on the takeout order. I'd probably give 4 stars except for a recent experience that really left me feeling kind of irritated with this place. I got some takeout and when I got home I realized the order was totally not what I had ordered. However when I called them they basically told me that that's what I ordered and there was nothing they could do about it. I'm a little nancy so my girlfriend had to call and finally got them to make the food we had originally wanted. I've worked in the service industry, I know sometimes customers lie or do things to get free food but if somebody calls and says they didn't get the food they wanted we just tell them to bring back the wrong food and we will give them what they want. The fact that it was such a big hassle and the fact that I would get food from them every week or so (which isn't cheap) and they still treated me like i was trying to trick them for free food just really put a bad taste in my mouth. Otherwise this place is good and their sushi is...
Read moreKawa Japanese Restaurant is an all-around better experience than your average sushi restaurant. I have only eaten at Kawa once so far, but it made a powerful first impression.
Considering the modest pricing of the food at Kawa, it is delicious and presented exquisitely. The quality won't blow any minds, but it is far better that the quality of most sushi restaurants on this side of Wisconsin.
The decor at Kawa is not typical. It utilizes daylight and a cool atmosphere, as opposed to the usual warm and dark atmosphere of most Japanese-style restaurants. I found this extremely refreshing. My only complaint concerns the music, which consisted mostly of pop covers.
I don't have many specific notes to share about the service, but I do not have a single complaint about it. I never felt rushed, nor under-served; it was timely and generally wonderful service.
If you consider yourself a sushi-lover (excluding tourists and snobs looking for the very best experience), you must pay a visit to Kawa...
Read moreThe service was not as it should be, I was disappointed. As a long time customer I to repeatedly had to flag my waiter down. The waiter attempted multiple times to hurry me out by asking me if I wanted my bill.(Captain Obvious) When I told him I would let he know he left the bill on my table anyway as if to say hurry up eat, pay and go. For lunch the cloth napkins are now replaced with paper, the disposal chopsticks instead of the real ones, the option of soy sauce with a meal is something that now has to be asked for when in the past it was automatic depending on your food choice. I'm not sure why they do not offer friendly service with a 😃. I ordered the T-Rex roll more than 12 times and this is the first time they skimped on the ONE roll of sushi that cost $16.00!!! (Yikes!) Talk about a JIP! The music selection was a nice eclectic mix perhaps the only reason to visit. There are many 🍣 restaurants in Wisconsin that will not treat you like a number and will be happy to take your money...
