My reasoning for Three Stars is because: 1. Friendly staff 2. Easy location/parking 3. Focused on children Two Stars removed: They have Ice Axes for door handles, yet they don't carry Ice Axes. In addition, when questioned about this, several employees didn't know what Ice Axes were (even after pointing out the door handles), a manager thankfully did. Finally, the manager said that when REI performed a survey for our valley and it's needs, they found that The RFV was missing a children's outdoor shop. Therefore, that is what this REI location will primarily exist for. Far more than adult items. (example image of ice axe door handles. In Glenwood, it's a black door frame with glass interior) History Lesson: in the '30s Lloyd and Mary Anderson were importing ice axes from Austria, that's what started it all. No ice axes available today in the store... in The Rocky Mountains... that's a darn shame.

Store is usually quiet and has good parking and staff is nice and helpful. I like the bike shop there too, helpful and honest advice and good and timely work. Inventory can be limited as it’s a small store. The store is very difficult to access by bike though! I hope they can push the city to improve the connection to the Rio Grande Trail. Crossing CO-82, you reach the wrong side of Blake and have to cross it where there’s a ped light but no marked crossing. And then no space for bike going up Blake towards the parking lot and lot has those annoying speed bumps for bikes.

If I could post zero star I would it was my first time into REI and one of the staff was so rude. Honestly if I didn’t talk to one of the supervisors I would never come back to this place. I am a native to Glenwood springs and never in my life here have I had a worse experience than the one I had today.

Worst REI I've been to in terms of customer service. My son and I went because he needed a new pair of hiking boots. There were three employees standing around talking near the shoes, but no one bothered to ask if we needed help. Then they all walked off.

We were able to stop a female employee who walking by. She was gone for the longest time looking for the boots. She finally returned with the boots and said if we needed any help to let her know. Then she disappeared and we never saw her again. My son wanted to try a different size, but we couldn't find the employee. He walked around to look for her, but she was nowhere to be found. Neither was anyone else. A few minutes later a different girl stood near the shoes, but she was playing on her phone the entire time. I tried to get her attention, but I think she had earbuds in and couldn't hear me. We left the boots on the bench and walked out.

My son spends a ton of money at REI every year, and we have never had such a bad experience at any of their locations. They lost a sale today because my son had other things that he wanted to purchase, but we put everything back on the shelves. So...

Go to the sporting goods store next to target or go to Summit or even better grand junction to find outdoor goods and get help. This is the worst rei store ever. They constantly mess up orders, never have a resonable time to help, and employees seem to have a complete lack of training or knowledge. After shopping here since they opened ive only been asked if i need help twice without spending forever to grab someone myself. Ive spent over an hr trying to track someone down on over a dozen occasions, each time there where only 3 or 4 others shopping so i gave up and started ordering things online. But REI has completely screwed their system up. I constantly have issues with my bank because of the way they charge and hold everything in the stupidest fashion possible that does nothing but make people frustrated and now im having actual charges they are saying never went through. They forget items in shipment, tell you things that arent in the same box where shipped together so youll get home and be short an item, or hell theyve sent stuff i didnt order to have the manager cancel and reissue my order for...
