Giant Eagle Supermarket — Local services in Greenfield Township

I have had bad experiences at Giant Eagle before, but today was the last straw. We shopped there tonight and got things for our Christmas dinner , including a bottle of wine.

When we attempted to check out there were zero employees to assist with checkout. Since we purchased alcohol we had to wait to have our ID checked. Three separate lines had flashing lights waiting for assistance. I gave up on getting help and pushed the "go to checkout out" option. It didn't help. I still had to wait for someone to show up.

When an employee finally arrived she told me to meet her at the checkout line. We stood there several minutes and watched her assist two other customers, restock gift cards on an endcap for several minutes, then she disappeared in the back of the store. We stood and waited. Finally she reappeared and I told her I had been waiting for her where she told me to go but then shei disappeared.

Her response was "I forgot! I had to go work in the liquor department for a few minutes. I'm spread thin tonight." She never even apologized. Clearly Giant Eagle is understaffed and does not care about customer service. Life is too short to shop at Giant Eagle. This was the last time I'll...

Today I was not allowed to have someone check me out and was required to self checkout because I am unable to wear a mask. This has never been an issue anywhere I have shopped. I told the cashier I have a medical note my doctor did provide me in case I ever found myself in a situation such as this (I haven't yet) and would glady present it. He told me it didn't matter and I had to self check out. I was polite and so was he. He did offer to come bag my groceries and I declined, at that point I was holding back tears of embarrassment. Normally I curbside at another store to avoid the situations but today that wasn't an option and this store does not offer curbside. What I found upsetting was at self checkout when I required teamate assistance the clerk had zero hesitation entering my space and getting within 12 inches of my face. 2nd time visitor to this store in Lancaster Ohio. I loved the idea how clean the store is. The shelves are in order and stocked. Wide open isles. Everything was easy to find. I watched The employees with other costumers. Friendly and ready to help. At the check out, I enjoyed the cashier ,pleasant and a good since of humor..for I like to joke 😀 he's able to work and talk at the same time ..to keep the line moving..I had questions on the perks card and he was helpful enough to answer my questions. I had a clean sanitized cart from the greater at the door when she welcomed me in. I will shop here more often now over the other choices of stores close by. Thank you Giant Eagle you made my day of shopping a lot easier. Thank you for having at least a couple cashiers because I really don't like self checkouts. Happy shopper...
