Natural Grocers — Local services in Gresham

I really wanted to love this place more. They have a great selection of fresh organic vegetables and a variety of healthy options that we absolutely enjoy. That part is not the issue at all. The reason for the low rating is the consistently poor customer service. Every time I come in, I’m the one who says “hi” first at the register, and in return, I get silence and a blank stare. The staff rarely greets customers or even offers a smile. It’s uncomfortable and honestly a bit disheartening. There have been several times where I’m the only person in line, holding my baby on one hip and trying to manage my wallet with the other hand, and yet I still have to grab a box and bag my own groceries while the cashier just stands there watching. On occasions when I’ve asked for help, I’ve been met with silence or an unfriendly, vague “this way” response without any real effort to assist. I go here regularly for vegetarian and vegan food options. And have for several years now. Everything is pretty good with this store.

The minus stars is because Greenwash-y sus stuff Including their terrible "bulk" section that is completely missing the point

the prices are a little on the high side, comparing the same items here vs other stores. Hopefully this is because they actually pay their employees well, etc. Also I really dislike their promotion of pseudoscience and fad diet culture. But they have good (eh) sustainability practices and literally any animal welfare standards, so I take what I can get.

They also stopped carrying several food items I liked and would buy regularly, but not sure what the exact issue is there.

Giving out free reusable bags to everyone so frequently is also a little concerning, since they are made of plastic, and I don't think it's recycled plastic. Hopefully people actually reuse them and it helps, but it's not the most sustainable practice compared to people just (re)using the empty product stocking...

Today the Natural Grocery store had a 25% discount on all vitamins and it was only today. My friend and I, after a hard working day, came to our favorite store, in which we have been regular customers for 6 years. The vitamins are so expensive at this time but we’re hoping to have a great deal for us. It was so exciting to get 25% off. But we were not lucky. We had an unprofessional a sales associate at the cashier register ( I know her name, I saw it on her badge, but it should not be important for this story). We had some so frustrating time to finish our purchases. But, the manager of vitamins, his name is Troy, and we have been seen him so many times at this lovely store, he took that situation on his professional “arms” and solved that unpleasant situation for us in a perfect professional way, makes us to be satisfied.
