Nebraska Crossing: Come for the Deals, Stay for the Existential Crisis.
Ah, Nebraska Crossing Outlets. I brought my wife and kids here for what I thought would be a delightful afternoon of bargain hunting. Silly me. Turns out, this is where dreams of outlet pricing go to die, and youâre left wandering a labyrinth of stores selling $700 coolers and Lego sets that cost more than my first car. Who are these people buying $650 Lego sets? Do they live among us? Do they breathe the same air?
The whole experience kicked off with an auditory assault: âCanât Stop the Feelingâ on repeat. Not twice. Not three times. Eight. Full. Times. It was like Justin Timberlake himself had been hired to torment us, but only with this one relentless earworm. Imagine sitting outside a tiny Chinese restaurant, choking down some mediocre lo mein while JTâs chirpy voice insists you keep dancing. I wasnât dancingâI was contemplating escape routes.
And just when I thought Iâd reached the edge of my sanity, they switched it up. Hooray, a new song! Except, noâit was âWherever You Will Goâ by The Calling. If youâve ever wondered what it feels like to be slowly driven mad by the sound of a man singing directly through his nose, let me tell you: itâs bad. It was on loop so many times that I started questioning if Iâd accidentally stumbled into some kind of experimental psychological study.
The stores? Oh, theyâre great, if youâre a Patagonia-clad adventurer who spends weekends in the wilderness with a $300 jacket and a $200 hatchet. But for regular folks looking for deals? Good luck. Itâs like someone took a regular outlet mall, sprinkled in some elitism, and then doubled all the prices just to see if youâd notice.
By the time we left, I felt like Iâd been trapped in a capitalist fever dream, held hostage by overpriced bougie nonsense and a soundtrack designed by someone who hates joy. Nebraska Crossing: come for the deals, leave with the realization that youâve been conned and can never unhear that Nasal Butt...
Read moreMy friend and I went when it was cold and misty, and we found the crossing to be very anti-customer. I won't be returning any time soon.
There are no awnings to stand under, no protection from the elements, and the wind is terrible. Feels like it is blowing straight from the the North Pole. It was a long distance from one store I wanted to patronize to another. If you park on one end to be near a certain store, it is a long walk to another and back to the parking lot, often leaning into that killer wind. Why didn't they put the parking lot in the middle, then it would be possible to park near the stores where you want to shop.
Those metal benches - when you need to sit to maybe rearrange packages or take a break are METAL; just imagine how scorching they will be in the burning Nebraska summer sun, especially for customers wearing shorts or short skirts - ouch! They won't be a treat when it is cold either. Much as I love Nebraska, there aren't enough #10 days weatherwise to require people to spend a lot of time outside without making some concession to our invigorating weather. We are smart, and we know the climate has be be considered in everything we do. Did the planners ever set foot in that area before they began this grand scheme?
Were any women consulted during the planning and design process? Maybe it would have been clever to put a bathroom and rest area in a central location, if there was a central location. To be successful malls need gathering areas where friends can meet, eat, and socialize. Socialization is a big part of the mall experience.
I realize it was not the best day to visit, but there are a lot of days like that in one way or another, and shoppers will go to comfortable place to spend their money. Someone needs to put their thinking...
Read moreLet me be clear, this is a great mall with great prices HOWEVER I personally feel lied to and cheated. The app shows 15% cash back and has had certain days with more than 50% when you spend money af the outlet. I have not been able to redeem money for over a year now. That's over $1000 I SHOULD be able to spend but haven't been able to because their system is down and they need to find a new carrier or whatever. That's money I could have spent on Christmas, birthdays, back to school etc. When you email in and ask it is the run around, "we are working on it" blah blah blah, over a year is 100% unacceptable. Furthermore, my best friend use to manage an acai store that was owned by the mall owners, she spent roughly $500 for the store products that she submitted receipts in for nearly a year ago, has called in, stopped in and has been given excuses like "well we don't know what account to pull it from" If it wasn't for the nex cash back I wouldn't shop at this mall off pure principal that if for whatever reason the mall owes money they clearly don't care about paying it back in a timely manner if they do at all. Do better...
