Went to target before they opened and spotted the Asian employee scouting out the sections where the new Pokémon set would be. Not sure if he was lucky or not but when we got to X9 I was pleasantly surprised they had some ETBs that hadn’t been preordered. As I hand my card over to pay (they grabbed two ETBs, one for me and one for my friend) I saw the price was $131 and some change and didn’t think twice. However, my friend stopped them from swiping my card asking if that was just for the one ETB. It was. Absolutely shocked that a local card shop where players come to play would have the audacity to up charge a product they, in price, fairly received from their vendor (or target) at triple the price of MSRP on launch. Sure, go ahead and make a few bucks today. I hope it was worth the hurt to your reputation in the community.
In response: Online is not the answer. This is where bots come into play not allowing a single regular a chance at product. I understand this set is over hyped but there are ways around selling at scalper prices. Yes, you can get more money online but the fact of the matter is that you were able to order at a regular and fair price but decided to inflate the price to your customers. If you were hesitant to sell at retail to avoid scalping of your product there is a solution. The best way I found was that many stores that did sell at MSRP had removed the plastic seal to avoid resale. They of course let the customer know before hand which overall did not seem to be a problem. You also have a huge difference in how your product is stocked in comparison to big box retailers such as Walmart and Target. Your ETBs were not on a shelf for people to grab at will. A employee was required to retrieve the product and bring it to the counter. Anyways, people are more than happy to support small businesses if the price is a bit over online prices. We like to support our community and have a nice environment in which we can enjoy our hobby. In response to another comment you made on another review; I’m sure your lights would still be on after selling at a fair price. Other than high demand your profits would more than likely have been no different than any other new release...
Read moreTLDR: If the owner is there it is easily a 5 star place. Sadly if anyone else is working customer service can drop to a 1 star place. Had been getting packs here sporadically since moving to the area but won't be returning any time soon.
The owner is a great guy with a ton of knowledge. He is polite but will give you an honest answer when necessary ( not going to lie to sell you a product). He keeps an organized store with fair prices. If you are there getting a gift he will direct you to something great.
On the other hand the people he hires can be atrocious. Some seem to want to do nothing but sit on their phones in an empty store. Below is my observation from a 5 minute visit on 7/28/22; gave wildly inaccurate pricing to a customer (quoted a cards being "like 8 dollars each" when in reality they were all between 5 cents and 2 dollars) mocked customer for purchase became aggravated and defensive when a customer asked him questions regarding the store and events played around on phone when customers probably could have used assistance polite at first but then became overall dismissive of customers ( scoffing, groaning and rolling his eyes when people tried to...
Read moreHave only ever gotten product once at this store, because they never really have anything (specifically pokemon or one piece) besides Lorcana :( . I have had a couple of good interactions with one of the employees there, but recently I met a different employee (the Asian one) and he was pretty rude. He discriminated me based on my age saying "I'm not selling this to you, you are out of the age range I want to sell to".
If you really enjoy playing tcg's than this is probably a great spot to do that at, but if you are a collector STEER CLEAR!!! I asked the Asian employee about the release of a new set for one piece and he said "yeah we will have it, but I'm not selling to anyone who doesn't come and play on Saturday night from 5 - 10"...kind of an absurd rule in my opinion, like if I don't have time to go play for 5 hours to get a box, I just can't get one at all from there.
So, bottom line, IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR DEFINITELY LOOK FOR AN ALTERNATIVE LOCAL...
