Ocean State Job Lot — Local services in Halfway

The store itself really is a nice store. I like that they have a little bit of everything for good prices (especially in today's times). Unfortunately I will be needing one to open in a different location as I've witnessed passive-aggressive, picky, and condescending behaviors towards the few employees there that are BIPOC. They also treat their BIPOC customers like they couldn't care if they come or go. Never speak/greet or ask them if they need help until they get to the registers, BUT don't take their eyes off of them while in the store, quick to say they seem suspicious, don't fully service them or have the same eagerness once they get to the registers, and then whisper amongst themselves once the customers leave. They're quick to let their BIPOC employees go (there were a lot when building inside of store so they got to look good), or make assumptions about their quality of work while others only get praised or a private warning at most. Especially the front-end supervisors Melissa (over heard her having a conversation about how she had no problem that her child was in a same-sex/gender relationship, but that the partner is Black), Sandra who is duplicitous, and Vicky who is clearly prejudice, to name a few. The store manager however is a delight and deserves a phenomenal team. The store itself is great I hope to see more of them in MD, DE, & VA soon. I just hope the clearly biased-based employees & "supervisors"...

31MAR.2025 This location is finally open. I’ve shopped in OSJL before years ago in Jersey and Connecticut. It’s nice that the a New England company is here. It is a bit different due to the minor lack of toys, like it was back in the early 2000’s. Other than that. This is a great place for gardening and outdoor goods at discount prices. We've bought large planters, garden tools, etc. Good quality!

Also good for homegoods and cleaning supplies and party supplies like plastic plates and serving dishes dinnerware.
