Read moreI recently moved to the Big Island from Colorado so naturally I was in need of some new ocean toys. Did some research on where to buy a surf board and paddle board. I wanted good quality, locally made and a locally owned store. I’d been in Hulakai Surf and Paddle a couple of times and thought they’d meet my expectations. I was wrong…they CRUSHED my expectations! Lyrics helped me pick out a longboard and answered all of my questions. Helped ensure that I had the proper fin and walked me (a kook) through the options. Never any pressure to buy and never tried to upsell. I was so pleased I came back later that day and they helped outfit me with a paddle board. The boards are high quality craftsmanship and look amazing!! Everyone was so friendly, knowledgeable and kind. Lyrics is one of the nicest people I’ve met on the island; aloha spirit for sure!! I’ll be back here again and...

A one day rental is much more expensive than smaller, local shops ($20/day), the interaction felt very rushed and I didn’t have the chance to check the snorkels before we left (the employee didn’t have us try anything on, it was only put in a bag). We used snorkel shops on other islands to help inform us on the best snorkel locations, conditions for the day, tips and tricks etc.. and the employee we worked with here had no information for us. They also don’t supply maps or de-fog solution (they only spray it once). I would suggest supporting a local snorkel shop instead. Despite that, this store has cute surf clothing and the employee...
