Island Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Hawaii

I was so excited when I read about this place and saw the menu. I was really craving some hot fish, and Fish and Chips seemed like a great place for dinner. First of all, this is a to-go only spot. There are tables on the boardwalk, so you can eat there and compete with the birds, but sitting over the water is nice. Ordered the 3 item combo with tempura battered fish, calamari and coconut shrimp, which comes with fries or rice, and about 2 tablespoons of coleslaw (basically a garnish). I got two small fish sticks, 2 coconut shrimp about the size of a 50 cent piece, and 3 heavily breaded (bulk frozen) calamari rings. This might have been ok for a light lunch, but not dinner. It really seemed more appropriate for a kids meal. Although the fish actually tasted pretty good, there was so little of it, it was gone before I could appreciate it. The 3 little calamari rings were rubbery with no dipping sauce, and the two tiny coconut shrimp (also no sauce), were barely memorable. Had I known this was the serving size and quality, I would have chosen a different place for dinner. Definitely skip anything other than the fish. The rest is freezer food with heavy breading. Two orders of a fish basket or fish tacos may make an adult size entree. Good lunch...

This is one our favorite places on the Big Island- or any Island. Maybe the best fish tacos in the world. I obviously haven't had all of them- but they are in my top 3 all time. Soooo gooood!

The Volcano Shrimp is amazing too and craveable. Perfect heat level. Not to spicy, but enough kick to wake you up.

Tried the calamari today. Also fantastic. The crust was like a great onion ring. The cocktail sauce was delicious too.

I know this is an out door lunch counter, but it is some of the best food in Waikoloa!

Previous review: One of our go-to's whenever we come to Waikoloa. In my top 2 or 3 fish tacos anywhere I've been. Nothing like fresh Ono, tempura battered and lightly fried The mango slaw puts them over the top.

The dynamite shrimp are outstanding, too. Perfectly fried, with a slightly spicy sauce.

Amazing crab cakes here too. Had them last visit. I'll post a picture if we go back as we normally do!

I really struggled communicating with the cashier. We ordered the the 3 choice with fries and I chose two fish and 1 calamari. She kept typing 2 choice with fish and calamari. After some back and forth she finally said one order of fish comes with 2 pieces. However I said I wanted 2 orders of fish, so 4 pieces, but she got confused. Then I just said screw it and ordered 3 different things because she couldnt understand how to pick the same choices even though I can see it on her computer. We also ordered a volcano shrimp

It was moderately priced. The fish were good size for 1 order but 2 calamari rings for 1 order was ridiculous. They gave plenty of sauce though. The volcano shrimp was not volcano at all. Just a mild mayonaised...
