My family and I have been going to Genesis Gallery for two decades now during our annual trip to the big island — first at the King Shops, and then at the Queen's Marketplace. As a curious, art-loving kid I was always inspired by the works at Genesis and they helped me become the artist I am today. Even when I was young, the owners Vera and John have always been very kind to me, before I was even able to buy anything (I was like, 5 years old!)
I purchased my first piece from Genesis at 14 years old; it was an Walfrido metal print, the most I could afford saving up for at that age. Over a decade later, at 25 years old, my wife and I purchased a Walfrido original, which had always been my dream. Both processes were made easy by Vera and John (there’s a collectors program where you can finance at 0% over a year!)
I've seen some reviews of parents who were upset that they aren't welcoming to kids — that’s just not true. As long as your kid isn't trying to touch the art that these artists spend hours and hours creating then they'll be just as welcoming as they were with me.
I've also seen some reviews mentioning they were short with people who were walking into the gallery. I can attest that both owners as well as Gene and everybody else at the gallery give their undivided attention to everybody who walks in (which might result in a quick hello before they can give you the attention they're currently giving to the client they're with.) I've watched so many people receive excellent service from the owners of the gallery, both first timers and long time friends. In fact, I hadn't seen Vera in almost 5 years, during which time my hairstyle and physique complete changed, and I grew a beard, and she immediately recognized me still and remembered exactly the piece I had purchased 11 years prior — that’s the level of care they take with gallery visitors.
Finally, to the reviewers who got the "vibe" that they weren't welcome because they couldn't afford the art: I couldn't afford the art as a kid, but they still remembered me, talked to me, and looked at my artwork as a I grew each year. Like I said above — they have a collectors program where you can finance at 0% across a year. They sign by it even says "Anyone can own fine art!" They WANT to make art accessible for everybody visiting the island, so the last thing they would do is shirk off potential collectors who may not have the means to buy a piece outright. Some of the stuff in there is very affordable even without the financing, so those saying nothing in there is for people who aren't wealthy is just...

My husband and I had fallen in love with a piece by Walfrido Garcia years ago, dreaming of one day having it in our home. Although we love art, we had never purchased a piece for ourselves—until the day we walked into Genesis and met Vera, the owner. Vera greeted us warmly, and we started chatting as if we’d known each other forever. When we mentioned seeing our dream piece years before, she took us to the back, and there it was—the artwork we’d been dreaming of. To top it off, the artist, Walfrido Garcia, was scheduled to visit the gallery the next day. Vera invited us to return, and we eagerly agreed. The next day turned out to be one of the most magical days of our lives. We spent hours talking, laughing, and even crying with Walfrido, sharing stories and learning so much about his art and the art world. Today, my husband and I are the proud owners of our first piece of artwork by Walfrido Garcia, all thanks to Vera’s kindness and care and her beautiful gallery. She kept in touch every step of the way, making us feel confident and secure in our decision. Whether you're new to the art world as we are or a seasoned collector, I highly recommend visiting Vera and Genesis Gallery. You’ll experience kindness, professionalism, and true business integrity—and most importantly, they’ll treat you like Ohana! Vera, from the bottom of our hearts...Mahalo and A Hoi Hou.....

A True Treasure in Waikoloa – More Than Just Art!
During my visit to Genesis Galleries in Waikoloa, Kona, Hawaii, I was absolutely delighted to discover an incredible collection of unique, high-quality art and jewelry. Every piece seemed to tell its own story, reflecting beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural richness.
But what truly made my experience unforgettable was meeting Vera and John. What a joy and blessing they were! Their warm welcome, genuine kindness, and the powerful testimonies they shared uplifted my spirit in ways I didn’t expect. Their presence added a deeply personal and inspiring touch to an already exceptional gallery.
I left with more than just art—I left encouraged and filled with gratitude. I absolutely can’t wait to return, not just to explore more breathtaking pieces, but to see Vera and John again. Highly recommended!
