Lava Light Galleries — Attraction in Hawaii

some talented photographers have their work displayed here, but we cannot get over how rude and uncomfortable the guy (ted?) working there was. He kept telling us to ask him questions about all the photos and then talked down to us as if we’d never heard of the MMPA or Pele or weather patterns and because we’re “tourists” we could never go to the places he’s been (which it’s obviously not a competition since we’ve been on the island like 36 hours lol). He also said that he goes out and plays fetch with the dolphins which makes me v uncomfy since it’s actually against the law to interact with them like that, whether you’re taking pics or not (I’m a big dolphin nerd). the entire interaction was incredibly off putting, we couldn’t get out of the gallery fast enough 🥵 which again is such a shame since there were some incredible pieces!

Anyone looking for a gallery, I’d recommend Gupton Gallery in Kona - not only was he showing truly unique and incredible pieces, he was AMAZING to talk to and gave us some incredible recs on the island to experience !! ...

One of the most beautiful and inviting galleries that we have been too. Even our 10 year old son was inspired. We were greeted by Don, who is a brilliant, talented and interesting man. We couldn't say enough about how thoroughly we enjoyed speaking with him. He explained how the gallery is made up of beautiful photographs from 3 artists (all of whom are beyond gifted). You can select the photography you would like to purchase and he will have it printed in the size you would like & an option to ship to you. Not only is this gorgeous art, but very reasonable priced and a unique story behind capturing each image. Don even has written several books and we purchased a beautiful "coffee table book" with stunning photographs from Hawaii. I can't think of any better way to cherish memories of Hawaii and bring back a piece of it's beauty.

Visited our 2nd day on the island and came back our 2nd to last day to purchase one of the amazing photos. While I was originally bought in by the lava flows, I ended up purchasing a view I loved the most on the island.

We were also given great directions on places to visit and we're treated with great kindness. We weren't pushed to buy.

Everything, I feel, is very reasonably priced for the quality compared to the other galleries around. If we were richer I would've purchased more, but we will look into purchasing these metal prints...
