Their history goes back decades and several generations, but my experience with them goes back to 2015 when I first discovered them in a food truck in the Blue Dragon parking lot. From the start, they took shave ice to a new level, with truly gourmet creations.
Over the years, as our vacations brought us back to the Big Island, I followed them from their original location to Waimea, to Waikoloa, to Hilo, to finally back to Waikoloa in their new, permanent location.
While you can build your own, I highly recommend ANY of the 12 specialty creations that they feature. I've had most of them several times, and they're all truly incredible.
Most shave ice places do ice cream, shave ice, decent syrups, and cream. OBISIC does all of this perfectly, has incredible syrups, has a large selection of additional toppings, serves large portions, and charges a reasonable price.
They have a large selection of ice creams to choose from. Their ice is incredibly fine and melts in your mouth. Their syrups are superior and I've never had a bite of ice that the syrups didn't reach. Instead of serving in the traditional shave ice cup, they now use a bowl, which seems to work much better (and portions seem even larger). They have the largest selection of toppings I've seen anywhere.
The move to the permanent location has increased traffic dramatically. There four times we went the week we were on the Big Island, there was always a line. But they've streamlined things (without sacrificing quality) so the line moves relatively fast. It's well worth the wait.
My only wish: That they would open MANY more locations. I'd love to see a few more around the Big Island (like Kona and Hilo to start). I'd love to see them on the other islands, for the trips when we don't make it to the Big Island. And I'd love to see them in my hometown, and elsewhere around the continental US.
There was a "snow cone" vendor at an event we went to recently. Chunks of ice. Poor quality syrups. Extremely small portions. And almost the same price as OBISIC. We REALLY need you to franchise, so we can get...

Well, I love shave ice and as a local resident, I'm always on the lookout for the most authentic and delicious shaved ice spots around town. I recently visited Obisic Shaved Ice, a hidden gem tucked away in the Waikoloa area, after hearing rave reviews from some friends who know their stuff when it comes to shaved ice. Spoiler alert: they were absolutely right.
My friend and I were hanging out by the kings marketplace, and we decided to check out Obisic Shaved Ice on a super hot Saturday afternoon. There was a decent line and it took about 40 minutes for us to get to the order station. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with a warm smile but the staff was cranking out orders.
As for the shaved ice itself, let me just say that it did not disappoint. We tried the coffee and Strawberry shave ice and they were both delicious! We also opted for some add-ons like ice cream, which took our shaved ice experience to a whole new level. The presentation was enticing, and we couldn't stop raving about the taste and texture our dessert.
With prices ranging from $6 to $10 per person depending on the flavor combinations and extras, I found Obisic Shaved Ice to be reasonably priced for the quality it offers. A small size is plenty to share between two people, making it perfect for a sweet treat without overindulging.
Overall, I'd rate Obisic Shaved Ice a solid 5/5 and will certainly recommend that both locals and visitors to Kona make a point to stop by and treat themselves to a flavorful island experience. Your taste buds – and your Instagram feed –...
Read moreWe were referred here by some friends who visit Kona on a regular basis and stay in the waikolo area. They actually had a shave ice business of their own and they recommended this place as having the best shave ice on the island!
There were six of us in our party that went for shave ice and we got mango, coconut, mocha, acai, and a couple of other flavors with ice cream.
Everybody's flavors looked and tasted delicious and everyone raved about what they ordered and had to eat.
We visited on a Saturday in the middle of an afternoon and it actually wasn't that busy. Kind of surprised.
Service was pretty quick and they had our order out and not much time at all.
Price varies between $6 to $10 per person depending on what you order with flavors and cream and or ice cream. Personally I would say a small is plenty to share between 2 people unless you really want ALOT!
Would definitely recommend stopping in here to get your daily allotment of calories all...
