I mean, its a gym. Lots of people like this place - its got high ceilings and all the equipment you could need. My gym standards weren't too needy, honestly - I was mostly going for cardio workouts in the evenings. Some of the equipment seemed dated, but it all works. Overall, the space felt a bit dirty to me. I never saw any of the staff cleaning and they rely on the members to wipe down everything, so you can guess how well that's ever enforced. I'm sure they clean - maybe I just came in right after it got dirty every time.
My only real complaint is the locker rooms. It felt like some sort of high school rehash. No real privacy, kind of dingy, and they REALLY didn't feel clean to me. Definitely could need a facelift. None of the showers have any type of door on them. Why not? The first day there I mentioned it to the woman working the counter and she agreed with me but said that management decides those things. So I posted this question to the staff online and was basically told it'd be too much work for their staff to maintain and that it would make the showers too dark to see. I don't think its weird to want privacy while showering and changing. In fact, its pretty normal. When I brought this point up to the owner, I was basically told that if I don't like it, they'd happily refund my money. Ok... great answer and thanks for taking my opinion into consideration.
I switched to Fitness Forever - its a little smaller, which is great - and it meets all my needs. Plus, they have private individual bathrooms with showers and its spotlessly clean. So glad there was an...
Read moreFacility is kept clean and orderly. The owners and staff have set the perfect tone if you want a no-nonsense place to workout among friendly people who are always willing to let you work in or offer advice if you're unsure how to use a machine or lift with proper form. There are quite a few members that have clearly been serious about fitness/lifting for a long time. I really appreciate that aspect of this gym, but it may intimidate some people that are newer or not as serious. Let me reiterate that everyone is super nice and willing to help/share if you ask. There are four distinct areas within the gym. An open-air free-weight and machine area that also includes a mechanical/rotating climbing wall. A smaller, but very functional ab/core area with some excellent equipment. An air-conditioned cardio area with treadmills, bikes, rowing machines, stepmills, etc. that also includes some machines for strengthening. A group exercise room for cycling, yoga, etc. The locker rooms, at least the men's as I can't speak for the women's area, is kept clean and has a sauna. Overall I'm really struggling to find something to complain about. I...
Read moreVery happy I found this gym. Great staff (shout out to Faith for being helpful and informative). As a Crossfit guy I thought about finding a local box BUT this is gym caught my eye. It is CLEAN. Members actually wipe down the equipment and rerack their weights. It is the perfect mix of old school and new school meaning they have modern equipment, iron plates (bumper plates only in racks) in a no-nonsense atmosphere. They have power rack lanes w/ horse mat platforms nearby so I could still torture myself with thrusters and drop the bar when I got tired. No pretty, color coordinated graphics, just a space where you come to get your reps in. Great cardio area too with ergs (my preferred cardio machine). I liked it so much that I worked out 5 of the 7 days I was in town. Best price in Kona for a weekly membership. A bit of trivia, for you old school WWE fans, Kona Crush used to own this place. Great community too, a dude lost $50 someone found it and turned it in - that's not happening on...
