Do not rent anything from this place. The shop sells sunscreen and surf equipment, which is fine. But whatever you rent, you rent at your own risk. We rented two boogie boards for the week. Unlike most places, there was no paperwork except a an old fashioned carbon copy of your credit card and request for your phone number and name. When we went to return our boards or let day before or flight, the place wasn't yet open. As there was no do off spot, I tucked the board at the side of the building. I called when the store was open. The woman said I should have known the opening time and if not, I should have returned the boards to the security guard. Although the boards were fine, Miller's charged a 25% penalty fee! I explained I was never informed of this policy, and that while I understood surfing me for missing or damaged boards, I shouldn't be fined when there was no written agreement. The woman became extremely nasty on the phone. Everything else in Hawai'i was amazing but Miller's left a sour taste...
Read moreGirlfriend and I went in to rent some snorkel gear. Had we known that the rental was cheap and was good for a week we would have rented earlier, but alas we did not know and only rented for a day since that was all the time we had left on the island. Anyways, the gentleman (maybe Miller himself?) that rented the gear to us was very friendly and nice enough not to call the cops on me after I almost stole not one, but two of his nice pens (I use the same pens and accidentally put each in my pocket after signing things). Made for a good laugh when we noticed that I was pocketing the pens, after just commenting to him that I liked his taste in pens. Upon returning the gear, they make sure to put your credit card info in the shredder right there and then, so that you know that it is destroyed and not being held. This was comforting and I think an important practice. If we are able to return to the big island soon I will make sure to rent gear from Miller's again and for...
Read moreAs a surf enthusiast celebrating a milestone birthday in Kona with loved ones, I asked my family to take me to Miller's for some gear. As we pulled up to the entrance, my family said they were going next door while I shopped at Miller's (since the 70 y/o women in my family aren't typically into surfing). At that moment, we were rudely greeted by a lady who told us we can't park there if we're going to the place next door. I responded by saying they brought me to Miller's... she proceeded to back-talk as if she was justified instead of something more appropriate like apologizing for her misunderstanding or welcoming me into her store. If you enjoy being treated like they do in NYC, this is the perfect shop for you. Otherwise, I would check out the other rad shops in town with the friendly local customer service...
