We were looking for a place to donate some gently used kitchenware from a place we recently purchased. We were so happy to find that the St. Lawrence Thrift Store was accepting donations, and we drove to the old chapel to drop off the 5 boxes of glasses, plates, cups, pots, and pans. We pulled into the parking lot around 11:45am, and it was completely empty except for one car. Since we just had a few boxes and they were full of breakable items, we backed the car up to the door and hopped out to unload. A woman then came flying out of the door and snapped, "Can you NOT park right there? Ok." And then she turned to leave.
Stunned, we asked, "Wait, why? We just have a few boxes to unload." She turned around, sighed loudly, and said, "We get SO many cars here, and your car is going to block them. Plus our truck is going to arrive at ANY second now. You can't block everyone."
I'm not generally one to respond to people like this, but I had to this time. "Are you serious?" I asked, as I gestured to the wide, empty lot. "We literally only have 5 boxes to unload. We honestly would be done by now if you'd let us."
"FINE. But hurry up!" And then she turned and left.
Had the truck arrived at that exact moment and we had been in the way, we would have happily pulled our car 20 feet forward. That would have delayed the truck by approximately 20 seconds. Also, there would have been plenty of space for the truck to get by, since, again, there was ONE other car in the parking lot.
I'm glad to know that our donations didn't go to her, specifically. I know that they're going to other people that will make good use of these items. But I don't think I've ever encountered such a caustic employee at a donation site - especially one attached to a church. It was a supremely...
Read moreUNPLEASANT AND OVERPRICED. This place used to be awesome...until they decided to overcharge for just about everything. My favorite find? A dollar store pot, available for $3.
This last visit was also disappointing as the usually happy workers seemed miserable. I inquired about pricing that seemed unclear to me (there was handwriting on a printed label) and was met with very harsh attitude about how their prices are comparable to ebay and to "look it up!"
After coming here for years, I probably won't be back. :( There are other thrift stores in town that are much more inviting and...
Read moreA terrible employee with a bad attitude. Use to be a good place to shop. Edit: for context, an angry customer made a complaint to the cashier and apparently it was about me and they refused to tell me why or what the issue was. I usually mind my own business and not cause any problems and this was clearly unprofessional to have an employee and customer gang up and bully another day without clearly reasoning what the issue was is highly rude. Considering this place is associated to the church nearby, that's not very saint-like to me. You've lost...
