I am a Canadian snowbird. I was on the road back home to Central Alberta. Two days ago while on the road, I ran over some unavoidable road debris and sustained damage to the valve stem of the passenger side inside rear dual wheel.
Yee Ha! Removing and replacing an inside dual on the side of the road with a 42' 5th wheel RV attached with 4000lbs of hitch weight. So much fun! NOT!
My go to tire shop for me in the US has always been Discount Tire.
I scheduled to stay an extra night in Helena so that I could attend to Discount at their opening this AM. I know they accept walkins on a first come first served basis.
At 08:00 sharp, they rolled up the shop doors, unlocked the front lobby and greeted me with the traditional smile and question, "how can we help you today".
I explained my challenge. They set out removing the wheel that is my spare and dismounting the tire from wheel with the damaged stem. They replaced the valve stem, upgraded it to a metal style, re-mounted the tire, re-balanced and re-installed it AND tucked the spare tire back up under the rear of the box.
As is customary with Discount, flat tire repair is no charge. I paid nothing to get this work done. Had I attended to a Chrysler dealer, I would have faced a bill of at least $300.00 or more and no way would I have been able to just "drop in" and get the work immediately.
Additionally, during a routine tire pressure check, they discovered the inside dual on the driver's side was low. They removed it, checked it for leaks and/or damage. They even dismounted and re-mounted that tire in order to replace the TPMS sensor that another Discount store had inadvertently broken during a previous flat repair on that wheel. That work would have been another $300.00+ plus the price of the sensor had I taken the truck to a dealership.
The first Discount store had been unable to source a replacement Sensor within the constrained time-line that I had at the time I experiended the first flat.
As a nation wide retailer, words don't do justice to this companiy's unwaiving commitment to TOTAL customer satisfaction.
I have dealt with Discount for 15 years in 4 different states and my experience has never been anything other then exemplary.
This store is an excellent example of how Discount consistantly strives to over achieve.
Many thanks to Sawyer and his shop crew.
Keep up...

This is opinion based. So up to you.
I've been seeing discount for my car for over a year now. I always pay the extra for the fancy maintenance, and warranty my tires get. I drive 100+ miles everyday to and from work. Just needed to get studs put on my car. So once I get my car back I find out one of the lug nuts got broken off. They asked if it had seen anyone since them, and I got my brake pads changed by family (to save $) I told them about that because I am an honest person, and I take pride in being honest even if it means I missed out on an extra buck. Im not like that.
So I call the boyfriend at work. He then discussed it with his coworkers who used to work for a tire shop, been a farmer/construction man his whole life, etc. So pretty good bowl of wisdom. My boyfriend then calls discount tire to ask like what the heck you just sent my lady driving over a mountain pass, and if anything else were to fail I would go probably flying off the pass.
I don't know any better, and trusted the man at the tire shop saying that I would "have a few days" before having to actually go in and get it fixed.
My mans, and his construction crew give this a negative 10 stars.
I wanted to give a 4, because unfortunately things do happen, and I trust that someone wouldn't ever send me out unsafe in that manner.
Anyway the bets up to you in how "good" or "bad" this place is. Ive always loved it here great inviroment, and...
Read moreI purchased a set of stud-able winter tires for my truck from discount tire and paid to have them studded in-house. I went in for my appointment and they were a couple minutes behind schedule, not a big deal for me just annoying as I made an appointment online to avoid the wait. I got the wheels back later the same day and they had mounted a used set of tires with a date code from last year, they were also missing multiple studs. I brought the wheels back to the store where an employee told me he ordered me a new set because I wasn't happy with the ones they had. These tires were supposed to be in a week later, however, the next day I get a confusing text saying my vehicle is ready for pickup (I didn't leave a vehicle I only left a set of wheels). This time around the tires are definitely not used like the last set but the studding job leaves me concerned and disappointed. More than a third of the studs are either put in crooked or are at least 1/8" away from being fully seated. Overall I am very disappointed in the quality of work done by Discount tire. They tried to give me old used tires and when I asked for new ones they did a terrible job studding them. The final way this experience let me down was how filthy my wheels got. By the second time around there was all kinds of dirt and grease everywhere that was not there when I dropped them off...
