Things are a little pricey but the selection is incredible. I was glad to discover that the only live animals other than tropical fish were reptiles, tarantulas and the only mammals were ferrets. No puppy mill k-9s or overpriced kittens. Plenty of cats and dogs are available at animal and breed specific shelters as well as the ASPCA. Kittens are available in your local paper nearly year round. There's no reason to buy either at a pet store when so many need homes. I initially went in to price a carrier large enough to hold two kittens who need to see the vet. I found a fairly nice one for under 30.00. I've been looking for a few weeks and I was prepared to have to part with 50.00 just to get one of those fabric carriers that may be comfortable but harbor fleas if the animals have them, are not easy to clean and not sturdy enough for two cats. I found a plastic and steel model on sale. There's a lot of carriers available in various configurations and made from several material combinations. Prices are high for most. Cat scratching posts and virtual jungle gyms covered in carpet and rope are plentiful and from around 40.00 for a basic platform with a single center post, to elaborate multi level structures with little houses and toys suspended by rope for well over 200.00. If you need or want anything for your furry buddy you can find it here. They have the expensive but only effective flea and tick repellents available. The name brand products like Advantage that also kill some other parasites, ear mites and some worm species. It's cheaper than a trip to the vet's office for the same problem. Staff can was helpful and pleasant, laughed at my feeble attempt at humor and wasn't displaying any attitude even though they were quite busy. Dog grooming is available. I observed two being performed in a glass enclosed area behind the cashier's stations. No idea what the cost is but it's never inexpensive no matter where you are taking them. I'll be back if only for the variety of pet food. Cats tend to like variety once you have...
Read moreI’ve always shopped at this location, even though their prices are high and other pet stores have better selection. Staff has usually been kind and polite, until today when the manager was arrogant and rude to me. I understand that he was only trying to follow company policy, but he could’ve been much kinder and more understanding that I have animals to take care of, and don’t have time to argue over policies. I went in to pick up something that I had ordered online. I was told that without my ID, I would be unable to take home my product. I am currently waiting on a replacement ID, and had a very hungry critter waiting on some food. I explained this to the manager, and showed him my confirmation email and the card (with my full name on it) that I paid for the item with. He was rude and short when explaining that his policy said that he couldn’t give me the item. I asked to be given my money back if I can’t have the item that I paid for. He instead, argued a little more and finally gave me what I paid for. I, being a loyal customer of this company for many years, feel that the card and confirmation email should have been enough proof of purchase for this. I had an animal to take care of, and the well-being of that animal should be put before “company policy.” I work in retail and aim to give my customers the best service possible, assuring that they leave satisfied and happy. The main reason I am writing this, however, was thanks to the shortness and arrogance of the store manager. The other staff is always helpful and polite. I will no longer be shopping at Petco, and plan on taking my business elsewhere to PetWorld or Petsmart, where the safety and health of an animal come before...
Read moreThe doctor running the shot clinic is EXTREMELY unprofessional. Brought both my cats for their rabies shots, had one in a crate and the other I held because she would not get in the crate at home. The cat not in a crate got her shot done easily, she barley felt it. My second cat who was in a crate would not get out so they had to unscrew it. My second cat was very scared so she starting growling and hissing. The doctor (Dr. Hanley) starting freaking out so she SMUSHED the crate against my cat trying to get the needle in. After that didn’t work, the assistant and her tried to put a towel over my cat but only held her head so obviously she squirmed out hissing. Dr. Hanley then proceeded to get upset and say “This is why I don’t do cats!” and “Another vaccine wasted!” I was shocked she said this, like how unprofessional can you be??! I checked the visit summary after we left, and she wrote that my cat was not OK to be serviced.” She stated that she was Fractious, hissing, swatting, growling, unable to vaccinate. I stood next to the table the whole time, and I didn’t see my cat swat once. Apparently, this must’ve been her first time handling a cat because she was basically throwing a tantrum. Also, there’s no such thing as appointments there. It’s basically you walk in whenever you want. I had an appointment set and though I was late to my first one by 5 minutes, I was on time for my second one. But, the people in front of me still got to go. Safe to say I will never be back there and Dr. Hanley’s unprofessional...
