You can find the following statement online when you do a Google search for "Walker Furniture Founder."
"In 1973, Deanne and Oscar Alterwitz purchased Walker Furniture from the original owners, Ruth and George Walker. Today, Deanne, Larry, Linda, and Daryl invite you to visit and see what Walker Furniture is about."
The more appropriate version should read, "Today, Deanne, Larry, Linda, and Daryl invite you to visit and see what Walker Furniture has turned into."
I'm sorry to report that Deanne, Larry, Linda, and Daryl have turned this venerable furniture store into one enormous shlock shop filled with cheap Chinese furniture found anywhere on Spring Mountain Road. The difference between Walker Furniture and the other Chinese [owned] furniture stores is that Walker charges twice the price and delivers half the service. Is it any wonder that you'll find "pitchman" Larry Alterwitz selling another "sales event" 365 days a year? Would anyone ever pay marked prices unless there was a discount? And, based on what I see, Walker's "discounted" prices are still well above what you'll find in small Chinese-owned mom-and-pop stores in Chinatown.
My wife and I went to Walker Furniture. We purchased a table and chair set based on the floor sample. That was our first mistake. We received a cheaply made version of the floor sample that I could see and feel was poor quality. The seats were less padded, and the frosting under the table top started coming off immediately. I was [twice] verbally advised by Richard Thornton, our salesman, that we had 14 days to return it. But wait, did I have two weeks on the return? I signed and paid for this cheap Chinese 5-piece dining set before I was (truthfully told) and handed the receipt. On the flip side of the paid receipt was an entire page of eleven (11) provisions (see JPEG). The "provisions" require an initial and signature. But since Richard Thornton lied to me about the return policy, he didn't get my initials (or signature) and never advised me to look on the reverse side of the receipt.
Walker Furniture prices are high and the quality low. The sales staff are dishonest. When you complain, Customer Service references their provisions on the back of a receipt that was never shown or advised. Those provisions are, therefore, null and void. When Walker management reads this review, all back page provisions will forever get initialed, signed, and dated. What you see at Walker Furniture is not necessarily...
Read moreLAZY MOVERS To start with, we were happy with our couch and bedroom set. The two stars are not about the FIRST delivery, but the second.
It would seem that Walker Furniture likes to advertise furniture in their showrooms that are not in fact in stock; so we waited about a month for my husbands desk. At first we were told it only take two weeks to come in... never received any updates and called multiple times for the status. We would be given a new date, but that date would come and go. I finally had to state that I was ready for Walker to come back and pick up the matching bookcase for the desk and refund us. This got me connected to a very nice manager that sated my concerns and kept good contact with me. None the less the back order issue was frustrating.
Then delivery day rolls around. Mind you we paid for delivery and set up. Two men deliver the desk, bring it in the house but then claim that the desk will not fit though the door frame to his office. I asked them to try but their response was "If we mess up your walls or anything then that on us"... well yeah, you guys are supposed to be professionals... I proposed a few ideas but they did not want to move the one piece so they left it in my living room. Yeah... it fit just fine and no damage was done by my husband and me. Lazy. Pictures attached.
Then there is their survey system with, as it is set up now, is just an intimidation tactic for good feedback. The mover calls a number on his/her phone and you talk to a representative that asks you if you were happy with your delivery and if there is any reason you would not provide a five stare review and that they would like to send you an online survey as well... IN FRONT OF THE MOVER. Well I was not happy with mine, and respectfully said so also bringing up how I had pointed out I had cats in the house and how the movers continuously left the front door open with no regard to them. Not cracked mind you, wide open.
Guess what; I never received that...
Read moreThe electric recliner on our 2 year old sectional went out last October. It took until December 2 for the extended warranty company (which we paid almost $400 for) to send someone out to diagnose the issue, a bad switch. They informed us they had to order it from China and it could take 12-15 weeks. It's supposed to be delivered to our address, then we have to call to get another tech to come out and fix it. It is now January 31st, we spent the entire holiday season without the use of this recliner on our very expensive sectional, and there is no sign or word about when we can expect any results. This customer service is horrible. Buy from Walker forewarned. They suck.
UPDATE: Yes, I appreciate the very rapid response from Angelica. She is awesome. Apparently they have the part and she has someone coming out this Saturday. Still I have to ask why did this take 4 months? I will amend my review if & when we get a resolution this weekend, but I still feel I must warn your customers against purchasing the extended warranty. That company definitely does suck.
Final Update: Thank you, Angelica, as promised the customer service tech, James, came out today and replaced the faulty switch in about 10 minutes time. I received a text yesterday to confirm the appointment date & time frame, and another text this morning from James to tell me he was 15 minutes from my door. He was courteous, knowledgeable, skilled and completely professional. We are very happy with the outcome. I amended my review to 3 stars. It would've been 5 stars had this been our experience from the beginning and not taken 4 months and constant...
