Krystal Clear Audio-Video — Local services in Highland Park

I had been struggling to get the sound I expected / wanted from a high dollar (for me) turntable and cartridge. I purchased this setup new online (mistake) and had paid extra for cartridge to be set up prior to being shipped (another mistake). It sounded dead and lifeless and I had pretty much resigned myself to digital music files for last couple years. I was determined to give it another try and focused on setting up myself. I noticed some improvement after weeks of tinkering at night with it which gave me some hope. I contacted Don Krasen at Krystal Klear to see if he had any good cartridge option or suggestions. He explained he had 30+ years of setting up high end cartridges and could take a look at it and if still in good shape set it up or get me in to another cartridge. He was very knowledgeable and easy and fun to work with. He arrived with a box of special tools most of which I'd never seen for sale and spent well over an hour adjusting the table. The difference is just astonishing and the music is riveting now with the same cartridge I was ready to give up on. So much so I'm having trouble going to sleep going through old records. It's clear from this experience that no matter how much you read or how many videos you watch and how many tools you have what it takes to get the most from a high end analog system is to have someone with tons of experience who knows what it should sound like and how to get it there and how little it can take to make a big sonic difference. Just wanted to say how pleased I am with the audio video system that Don from Krystal Clear audio designed for me. He came out and made an assessment of the spaces that we were considering and after a lot of discussion with my wife we decided that it would be best to turn one of the spare bedrooms into a dedicated media room. With this decision came a change in Don's recommendation for the speakers since the room has different dimensions than where we were originally going to put the system. This also came with the addition of a TV so the room is basically now a home theater room.
