I had two vacuums that I had purchased elsewhere which had stopped working properly. One had already been 'repaired' by a competing shop and still didn't work correctly. I was in the shop a few minutes before closing to buy an embroidery hoop (they were the only shop in the area who stocked it) and struck up a conversation about my vacuum frustrations. The employee was familiar with both vacuums and these type of failures. One vacuum stretches out its belts, which need to be replaced every three months or so or they start slipping. The other had a known design/manufacturing defect in its beater bar the first model year which had since been identified and corrected in the replacement parts. I bought a beater bar and belts at reasonable prices and made by two under-performing vacuums good as new! The competitor where we had purchased and serviced the vacuums had failed to find and repair the problem on one, and failed to advise us about the other's hunger for fresh belts when they sold it to us. The man helping me was patient, knowledgeable, and not pushy. I was ready to send one vacuum to Goodwill and buy a replacement, but the salesman focused on fixing my problem instead of feigning ignorance and trying to sell me a new vacuum. I initially called Ron to figure out what was wrong with my newer Dyson. He immediately new there was some type of water damage due to how my vacuum looked (generation 5) and the false reading it was giving me saying airway obstructed even though the filter was cleaned and no debris anywhere within the vacuum itself. He quoted a fair price to clean the entire machine including the inside of the motor with special corrosion cleaner. He also gave me helpful tips like not vacuum over wet debris on my floors and also to ensure the filter was 100% dry before putting it back into the machine. He also gave me some information on the business and how they have been around since the early 70's having the local community putting their trust and faith into their amazing store, qualtiy of work, fair pricing, and exceptional customer service. The biggest shocker was he said the cleaning might take a few days due to me bringing it in later in the week after a three day weekend, but had it turned around and back to me fully repaired within 24 hours without trying to upsale me or tell me my vacuum needed additional parts. I moved to Hillsboro about 4 months ago. I visited Portland on a regular basis. I am a fan of the older Singer all metal sewing machines, and I have 3 of them. On a number of occasions, I have taken the machines to a local shop in Portland, and have been VERY disappointed having been told the machines were not fixable and that "I needed a new machine!" I have a new machine, but I still love those old machines.

To make a long story short, I went into Hillsboro Vac and Sew recently and bought a vacuum belt. I talked to the guy and he told me, much to my surprise that they repair old Singers. I have the repair manuals on the machines, which they did not need....I brought mine Singer 403 in, and they had it a week, and all I can say is that this place is my repair shop, and when I need a vacuum, or to buy another machine, etc. this is the place I will go. I rate this place on a 1-10 Scale....12! I cannot say enough good about them. My machine works beautifully!...
