Blue Moon Bakery — Restaurant in Hillsboro

I had this bakery on my radar since it opened as I had been on an email list from this bright entrepreneur who will let you order online and pick your baked goods up in various locations in our area on different days of the week, a little like a roving farmer's market.

Colleen and Regan made my first time visit enjoyable and like a field trip. I recommend this cute bakery with joyful vibes selling many sweets you're not going to believe they're gluten free! I had to buy a variety of goods so I could know what to buy the next time! Of course I figure what they have baked varies each day. I know they have seasonal offerings. I recommend going with an open mind and an appetite.

The Blue Moon Bakery has become a market place for other gluten free bakeries. Shoppers can purchase items from GEM bakery of N Broadway in Portland and bread from New Cascadia Traditional, also Portland.

Blue Moon is in Hillsboro. It appears to fill a unique corner shop that will surely attract locals for the coffee shop atmosphere and busy this place up plenty soon, especially given the friendly clerks and large variety of cookies, carrot cupcakes (one of my faves!), and cinnamon rolls! Loved the maple bars. The savory ham and cheese pie was yummy.

I plan to return when I can get over the river and through the woods again. In meantime, I may order some goods for pickup at one of their pickup spots. Now I have sampled their wares, I think I can know what to order. Yum. I had a joyful time buying quality goods in a locally owned shop. Can't get better than that. Thanks very much!

So, I visited again. Same song, second verse. Lovely time. We're so fortunate to have such a great bakery within driving distance. Got more goodies and brought them home. Ate one with best buddy and put the rest in the freezer for later. Yum! Too far to go again soon....

This is my second time here and when I went on Halloween Friday, all the staff were dressed up and they offered a raffle for anyone in costume, how fun! They do have 2 parking spots along the shop, but there were street parking available.

I am not gluten free but I'm so happy to see all these amazing options for my friends who are gluten free so they can also enjoy more yummy treats! There were certainly so much to choose from it was hard to narrow down what I wanted to try. They also had lots of great seasonal offerings too full of pumpkin and spooky goodness for the season.

I got the Spicy Mocha with oat milk which was smooth with a nice kick of spice after each sip. But my favorite was the ube square donut with the matcha glaze!! I am still thinking about it and can't wait to get it again! It was so fluffy and offered just the right amount of sweetness for me! I gave my other treats to my gluten free friend but I'm sure the peach fritter and the pumpkin chocolate chip scone were just as good. I also had their ham and cheese hand pie before as well and really enjoyed it.

You can choose to enjoy your treats and drinks inside the small but brightly lit store or you can take them on the go. They also had a freezer full of ready-to-go biscuits, pies, breads, etc so you can enjoy them later. The staff were all super friendly and helpful! I did hear them tell new customer they are known for the maple bars so I'll have to come back and try...

We ordered online and did a Pop Up Pickup in Keizer OR. Other than not locating the Pop Up for nearly 5 minutes the experience was wonderful. My hubby actually drove from Albany to do the pick up and I guess he didn’t know what a Pop Up was so that’s on me. Now to the food - this was our first time ordering - and what a great thing we did. Our home is GF due to Celiac Disease and boy do I miss “good” baked goods. These are right at the top of any I’ve had over the years. The cinnamon sugar pop tarts are divine. They are thicker than the kind that come in a box at the store but the flavors are so yummy, plus they’re huge. We got cinnamon rolls and chicken pot pies but they are in the freezer for another weekend. The Goodie Box was packed, literally, with many wonderful treats to taste. I recommend getting this every time you order! The box has several of many choices which is good when you are starting out or if you just want a little bite of several different items - either way you can’t go wrong. You don’t get to choose what’s in the Goodie Box but I like that it’s one less decision I have to make. Besides, small surprises like what treats I bring home are the best kinds of surprises. Of special note is that they read and paid attention to the note on my online order to exclude anything with nuts. It was written on my boxes and on the printed invoice. Thank you for listening!
