ALDI — Local services in Hilton Head Island

I waited for the "new" to calm down before actually making a visit. I am not an Aldi shopper so I had no real reason to go. Finally decided to check it out the other day. Upon entry the store looks nice and open. Love the space between aisles. Prices seem fair. The non grocery items really caught my eye as their prices were pretty good. A lot of house hold items at good prices makes me want to return. There were only a few people working on a Monday evening around five. One person was cleaning. GREAT SIGN! When I spoke to the individual they were extremely kind and helpful. Even the self check out area has room to move. One thing I had trouble with was the bag question at self checkout. The machine asks if you purchased all your bags. When you say no you do not check out. You have to say yes even if you are NOT buying bags. The question might need to be are you buying or did you buy? Maybe I misread the question. That could be possible as well. Either way, a nice experience and worth the trip. We went back today for another purchase because we were in the area. Will not be a regular stop because we do not live...

Today, August 18, 2025, afternoon, I visited the Aldi located at 1131 Fording Island Rd, Bluffton, SC 29910. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing and concerning for safety reasons.

The store was extremely disorganized, with products scattered around, opened food packages, and drinks left on the floor. Many items had no prices, making it confusing for customers.

What alarmed me the most was the presence of an electric pallet jack left turned on and parked in the middle of an aisle with customers walking around. On top of the pallet jack, there was even a box cutter left unattended. There were no employees nearby monitoring this machinery. This is a serious safety hazard, especially for children, who could easily approach out of curiosity and cause an accident.

This level of unsafety and disorganization is unacceptable in a store that serves the community. I took photos during my visit to document these issues.

Aldi came to our area with a lot of buzz surrounding their opening. I finally got there today. Certainly wasn't a bad experience but honestly there was a "is this all there is" on a reel. Perhaps it's my style of shopping style which one might describe as overly informed. Aldi did have competitive pricing on certain items, and a few unique store brands, after the smoke cleared we ended up with about 7 items that made our "good buy" requirements. I could have added a few more but these were things I just didn't need. If you watch for good sales at the other supermarkets and stick to your list. Know what's cheapest where, I'm sure you will do better than Aldi pricing. I have no...
