Paul Brown Salon — Local services in Honolulu

Below is an account of my experience at this Salon. It was not good and my hair after 10 days is still badly singed due to the instruments used. Furthermore, other people have since informed me of other poor service at this establishment e.g., not being situated by any mirrors and then horrified by the results! Do not go here, particularly if you are a woman. Please see why below:

Firstly, I was attracted to the salon as it was open until 8 pm, recommended by colleagues who frequent the Kailua salon and have long hair like myself, as well as being next door to Island Oil where I shop regularly. They fit me in at 6:30 pm that day and were very friendly. On arrival I was told that my hair dresser was just finishing up and would be right with me; half an hour later he eventually graced me with his presence. The lady at the desk told me his name was Del, he also told me a variety of other names as well as preceded to embark on a frivolous peacock performance on a pseudoscience of hair (I'm a scientist), not once answering any of my questions and eventually the 'have you dated pisces men' approach was attempted with the accompanying behavioural and verbal nonsense. Had he paid attention to what I would have liked then perhaps this would have been an enjoyable experience. I did not want much cut off, he did not listen, would not tell me how much he was planning to cut off, I did not want my hair blow dried or hot irons on them to straighten them out and eventually I asked him to respect my requests by not cutting off any more. Had he answered my questions of how much he planned to trim etc., initially then that may have instilled some confidence in his highly inflammatory opinion of his abilities. As it stands he stopped cutting my hair after my final request, left it lopsided and stormed off. I then, much amused, waited a further 5-10 minutes for someone to come to the desk so that I could pay for this treatment. It really was an hilarious experience to observe this little man at play, however, I can only assume that the heating instruments applied to my hair (I do not and have never used such instruments) caused the ends to frizzle up the following day, such that I ended up trimming them myself. It's unfortunate, as you were well recommended, yet your staff was truly a prat! And as such I will not be returning...

I gave 4 stars because I love Paul B. he and his staff were very warm and inviting. They made me feel comfortable and I had been to PBS before and loved my last haircut so i went back....HOWEVER! To my horror I was given a cut which i absolutely hate!!! And didnt ask for! (As described) Thank goodness I did not have to pay for it...this was a cut from a MASTER stylist who chopped my hair up in the back and left lots of unevenness in the front. She made it look good as a style. But after I washed, it now I don't know what to do with it...I usually do my hair with no problems but this is the worst haircut I have ever had in my life! She offered to call me in a wk to see if she could fix it, and she did call but i was actually afraid to go back. I told her how I wanted it cut and it was nowhere near....I actually had to stop her from cutting my hair because she had cut way too much and was cutting even more😳😳 I don't know where this cut was going but I wish I had never went to this stylist...I'm not going to disclose her name because she tried to fix it but it was too late she had cut off way more than I asked. In the end she textured it then told me that texturing it would make it look frizzy...so why did she do that, because now it looks frizzy and damaged all...

I always been a customer at Paul Brown Salon for years. Actually I once went to the Waikele location and used to see a girl named. Melissa then that Salon closed so I ended up going to the Ward location. I asked the receptionist to recommend a hairdresser for me and the receptionist recommended Ian so ever since that time I have been seeing him as my hairdresser for a very long time. I would never want to go anywhere else because he is very accommodating. I am not able to come in on the days he is working and I even told him that my days off are Tuesday and Wednesday and he tells me no problem I will come in just for you anytime.. Also whenever he goes on vacation during the time I really need a hair color,I know I can trust any of the other hairdressers! Everyone there is so welcoming.from the receptionist Kat or Angela,to even the hairdressers there. They always say hello how are you today? Or ohh you are waiting for Ian? Ok well let me go and call or get him for you ok! Everyone there is do nice. I would always recommend this Salon because everyone is so talented and this Salon is well known. This is...
